Depends. If QTE are in cutscenes then yes, I hate them. If they ruin gameplay like in most games then yes, I hate them. But if done right like in God of War then I love them.

If they're part of core gameplay like Prince of Persia with its quick kills, then I find them perfectly acceptable.

If they're just thrown in now and then to fuck with the player, they're awful and unnecessary.

If they are done well and made part of the general game like RES5 and GOW so yes they can be good and bad. Just devs should stop using them out of context and make them core part of gameplay.

I'm walking down a corridor. I'ts scary. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a gigantic X starts flashing in front of me. Puzzled, I stare at it. I die. The person sat on a couch in front of the tv, controlling me roars with rage. I respawn. I'd give anything to be an NPC.

it depends on how they are implemented
i felt that the Mass Effect 2 conversation QTE's were awesome
but most of the time they suck

I enjoy them provided that they have had some thought put into them and their not there simply for the sake of being there. I like QTE when your not going to die if you miss, the QTE's in God of War are a good example, most of them will just result in you getting kicked off the enemy with a chance to try again. I also like them if they have some effect on the story, in cut-scene that is, the cut-scene with QTE that we often get are really there just to hold up the story. You don't press the buttons, you don't see the rest of the cut-scene.. you just get flattened. Cut-scene QTE where if you don't press the buttons you get a different result than if you did... like landing some in a different area of the maze or picking up a different item. Heavy Rain is a good example of this where using the incorrect buttons will just result in the story playing out differently rather then murdering you.

When they feel like game play and less like an arbitrary event(think Turok, about the only good thing about the game....), I love them, other wise its as bad as cheap melee combat(dark sector) or cheap gun mechanics(bioshock) it sucks and there is no reason for it these days.....

I've encountered Qtes in three games so far (Force unleashed, RE V, ME 2), not including *mini*qtes like the ones Just cause II does when jacking cars / choppers, and never minded them - they are a way of allowing certain customization of cutscenes at the players will, without necesserily involving dialogue, or allow certain cool stunts/tricks to be spotlighted more cinematicly (where usually we do not see much, but the back of our character, in a fight) or to pull off tricks, that the controller isn't equipped for.

Neither of wich I find a bad thing.

Of course you can implement them bad, but then, there's nothing you cannot.

It depends on the game, QTE's can work well if they are a core part of the game for example Heavy Rain, but in games like Resident Evil 5 they are just pointless. So i'm a bit inbetween for this i like them if they work well with the game and i dislike them if they are popped in a game for no reason.

But i love the tension they add to the game knowing that if you don't act quick enough and press the flashy button your fucked.

to me, they fall down where the game 'pauses' while you press the button/select your choice. where it feels fluid and part of the game, i think it works really well.

but no, i don't hate them. sometimes they're used wrong though.

Personally they have never bothered me.

At times they seem unnecessary but they have never lowered the entertainment value for me just by being there.

Yes, though my experience with them is generally limited. It's just annoying to me, and I never really seem to do well at the few that I run across in the games that I play.

I like them until to that point I don't need a bot to pass them. (like resident evil 4 on hardest dificulty I never could past the rolling stone in the first chapter.)

I hate QTEs in cutscenes. I don't mind them in gameplay, but i think they are outdated. They were outdated when Shenmue came out.
