Yes. I have, for years, had a cheap hand me down phone that had a little money on it for emergencies or such. Now I have an iPhone and love it so. I hardly ever call anyone on it. I use it mainly for internet, music, travel information (I take a lot of trains and the National Rail app is a godsend), and reading the news.
I have a Verizon Env3. It's awful. So many glitches, the battery falls out constantly, the buttons are falling off, and this is my second Env3 because the first one constantly turned off and turned back on. But it's better than nothing. I'm not the kind of person who can't live without their phone, but I'm certainly glad that I have it.
My phone isn't even cordless, much less portable. I kind of wish I still had one with a rotary dial. I would totally make one of these [http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/tutorial_info.php?tutorials_id=51&page=] if I remotely had a use for one and weren't feeling cheap/lazy.
