I don't have one. I have been tempted to make one though, but I resisted the urge.

I hate Facebook. I got into it because of a life-long friend who moved away and wasn't responding to my emails (but did forward me a Facebook account request)...

My main problem is that there are very few people on this earth that i actually care about. However, on Facebook it seems like a competition for people to see HOW MANY FRIENDS they can add, so i had people that i went to grade school with 20 years ago adding me as friends.

At first i thought 'okay, sure', but now everytime i log onto facebook i'm bombarded with status updates of people i don't care about doing things i don't care about.

I could care less about how drunk you are or that your hellspawn isn't letting you sleep at night, but is able to doody on his own, dammit!

Yes, I have a Facebook account. It's a nice way to keep in touch with relatives you don't see that often.

Exactly! It's not about having actual friends, it's just about competing and trying to put yourself in the center of things.

I got one earlier this year after months of prodding/begging/threats/guilt trips from one of my best friends.

I've used it, like....twice...and still have only the 3 people on it that I added the first day---and NONE of them is my g/f. (lol)

For me it's just another annoying aspect of the same culture that makes people text each other for 23 hours a day, at least in my age group. What is so hard about going 5 minutes without social interaction with a person of your choice, especially when assorted other friends are sitting right next to you? No, I don't care that you're bothered about trivial crap X, and no I don't want constant messages about absolutely nothing.

It's a great idea, but the way people use it sometimes just makes me rage, especially when you hear stories of RL drama based on people nt being on each others' friend lists and so on.

I have two actually. One for me personally and one for that show that has strangely turned into, to quote a friend of mine, "Lost with cat crap in it".

Become a fan! (shameless advertising) :p

I don't have one and don't plan to get one. I can see its appeal when you have friends and family members scattered everywhere around the globe, but then it's not my case. I can keep in touch fine through emails and such, and if I had a facebook page I know I would feel obligated to check it semi-regularly, which would undoubtedly turn out to be a waste of time. Plus, I'm not all that keen on posting pictures of myself for people to see, I just don't see the point.

Also, what Cilliandrew said.

In truth, it befuddles me to see how much time people have to lose on such websites. Twitter is even more idiotic in my opinion.

I have one (seeing as my friends insisted and made it their personal mission to ensure I get one) and I sometimes use it (some of the games and quizzes on there are handy little time wasters if I have sod all to do, which is often the case).

Don't look for me on there or there will be a lot blood. Your blood.

I seem to be the only one in my class who doesn't have Facebook (and I'll never, ever make an account!), so I was wondering how many here on The Escapist have Facebook?
I also thought I would never make an account but as it turns out it's actually a pretty cool thing.

An ex girlfriend badgered me into making an account back when it was new... I used it a little back then but never now... especially given that of the silly number of 'friends' that I added or added me I only really see and do stuff with about 10.

No, and I never will. I'll engage people in conversation when I meet with them, or when there's an interesting online discussion I want to weigh in on. But Facebook is a cesspool of horrendously idiotic and pointless drivel, and it has become something of a perpetuo mobile: Many people who see all the mental diarrhea of other folks on Facebook seem to feel their opinion validated that it's ok to share their own stream of crap with the rest of the internet, and thus a never-ending, ever-growing output of crap is established and sustained.
