I hold open the door long enough for someone else to touch it, then I go on through. That way, I still get 'thank-you' courtesy points, but I don't feel obliged to stand around waiting for people to stop piling in.

Yeah, I always hold them open, but it just depends how far away the person is.

A very appropriate video, I think hehe :)

So here's a question I have for you escapist: Do you hold open doors for people in public? If so, why? If not, why not?

I do, because it's something I was taught to do when I was very young, and I guess I've kept it ever since. It's just something I thought was expected of young men

EDIT: Escapist ate my poll. I hope it was tasty
Meh. Got Ninja on my first post.

Yeah, I'm notr looking to break it. It'sgood manners. Sure, I never get a thank you but hey, what the hell.

I will always do it. For both men and women. It's just the polite thing to do.

Well, yeah. It's not like it takes much effort. Everyone does for me as well.

Most of the time I do. Sometimes i forget to check see if anyone's behind me, but in general I almost always hold the door open. Just raised that way

I do, it's just the polite thing to do. A lot of people have mentioned that they aren't getting thanked, but surely the thanks is someone else holding the door for you at some other point?

All the time. Even if I'm not thanked, the instant gratification of doing something nice for something feels good.

Well I tend to be a bit oblivious to my surroundings but if I do notice someone right there I'll probably pause a moment to let them through.

I hold it when there is someone behind me and within a reasonable distance but I do hold onto it longer for people with a pram or the elderly.
