Install all Bethesda games. Makes the loading times in the massive RPGs much quicker.

I did it for fallout 3, but that was before I needed more hard drive space for various saved games. It helped, but I can't do it anymore.

If the game disk is making a hideous noise, or taking forever to load, I find installation generally helps.

Depends on how much I enjoy the game i.e I have Mass Effect 1, 2, 3 and Skyrim installed on my 360 atm.

I do wish that I had the option to not install some games on my PS3 though, it only has 60GB, and that gets filled up fast, each game on average seems to take up around 3GB, not to mention my 2 sets of Black Ops DLC which have about 1GB per map

I do, because I have a really old Xbox 360, the old launch model PRO with the 20GB HDD, but upgraded since then. Because its old, and has been refurbished once before, if I don't install the games to the HDD, when the game runs my Xbox sounds like an airplane taking off, its that bad that it overpowers the actually TV unless I have it blaring to the point where the neighbors can hear it.

So yea, install all the way, same for the PS3, although for different reasons, the PS3 is painfully slow if I don't... I swear the PS3 has some of the worst load times I have ever seen, of course, depends on the game as well.

I usually don't install my games to my hardrive mainly because of the fact that my xbox can only hold 20 GB. The only game that I have installed is UMvC3, but that's just because my xbox ate the disc and I needed a way to play it.

If I'm going to be playing the game for a long time. Generally helps load times, which is nice.

For a long time I had the old white xbox, with the 20gb hard drive. The noise was horrible.. So I upgraded to a 60gb. Started to install games, but found that the space filled up very quickly.

At the beginning of the year I finally bought a new model. I'll install anything that I'm currently playing, then take it off if I don't plan on touching it for a while. I'm not sure if it makes that much difference with load times, but the reduced noise is a big plus for me. Also, from what I gather it helps prevent the disk being scratched.

I did for Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Two Worlds. Mainly games that need to load a lot depending on what you do in them. I'm pretty sure it helps the game load faster.

Not usually but if a game has really long and frequent loading times I will and it usually shortens them a bit, or maybe thats just the placebo effect.

The only reason anyone shouldn't be installing is if they have the 4GB HDD or something. Installing a game is quieter, makes the load times WAY faster and reduces wear on the disc drive. There is honestly no reason NOT to install.

The less the disk spins, the better.
It doesn't wear the disk reader and the disk off and also loads faster.
Nobody likes scratches on their disk.
Nobody likes an unusable console just because the disk drive broke (which is loves to).
Also the xbox has this habit of destroying disks if you move it while they're spinning (why anyone would do that is beyond me but it happened).

I'm... stunned that some people in this thread can't seem to make that connection.

I do to all the time for games playing regularly, and since I got a bit of a bonus this month from work, plus my 3 year old refurbished Xbox was on its last legs I upgraded to a new slim 250gb. It's quiet as hell even with a disc in, but when installed its almost completely silent, not quite like the PS3 slim but close. However, my TV's speakers make a horrible noise, that stops a bit if I lean the TV forward when it has been on for a while (weird as hell, I know.)

But it definitely helps with loading times on certain games. Like someone said, RPG's like Oblivion loaded waaay faster. Also, on Bad Company 2 you got onto the map well before those who hand't installed did, so you were guaranteed to get a good vehicle and head start on the enemy team.

I install the occasional game, only those that read lots of data; Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Forza, Fable, etc.

I do not worry about wearing any drive out or scratching a disc, this is merely to reduce load times and improve performance.

I install all of my games, especially if they were released post-2009.

On my old clunky Xbox 360 it all but eliminated disc spinning and the wretched noise that dominated my room with it.

On my new matte-black Elite S I install, while disc-noise is very slight to begin with and the fan is hardly noticeable, because it can shave as much as 30 seconds off every loading screen (depending on the game).

Fallout 3 would take 2-3 spins of the loading screen dial to load the world "installed", whereas if it was loading from disc it would take 7-10 spins (another 10-15 seconds). This all adds up over time, especially on F: NV where loading screens were longer and much, much more frequent too.

Now those are extreme cases, but nevertheless on every single game you can save time and irritation by installing the game, even if it's as little as 2 seconds. The only thing it doesn't speed up is saving and initial game loading thanks to splash-screens.

For old and new consoles, once you've installed the disc, it is only needed for confirmation you own it, after that it runs the game from the HDD: This means that if your disc got scratched, you don't have to play the game with the lingering paranoia that it will crash on you any second in case the room you just entered was held on the scratched groove of the disc.

Always and it helps with the loading time in my experience.

Cant play Fallout or TES without installing first to help gameplay and also keep the xbox quiet and cool.

Sometimes if I'm unsure of a game I'll play it via the disk first before installing, but usually it goes straight on. Doesn't take much to remove it when your done :)

If it's recommended, then I will but for the most part I bought the 360 so I wouldn't have to install games onto the hard drive. I can't say I've noticed any significant difference in how long it takes a game to load when it comes to games that are or, aren't installed on my hard drive. As for textures that don't load in, it doesn't really bother me when they load in more slowly. There were a few games (like Fable 2 and 3) that seemed worse off after I installed them. This is what ended up driving me away from the PS3 honestly, I hated how every single game had to be loaded onto the freaking hard-drive. I buy consoles and am a console player so I can just pop in the cart/disc and play.

Yep, and it seems to help with most loading times. But I mostly do it for the noise reduction. Even though I have the newest 360, which is quieter than the old models, I still don't like any disc or fan noise so I install to get rid of it completely.
