Yes usually.

It tells a lot about the person most of the time.

Just look at mine.
Well I don't know if I would judge you by your avatar since you change it most of the time.

Wait actually, Off topic, but if you were to judge me based on my Avatar what would you think O_O
Well if I were to judge you I'd say you like anime that's similar. XD

I don't judge them by it, it just shows a bit of the person's personality. That said, I hardly ever look at the avatars; well I just glance at them really fast.

The only things your avatar shows me

-is a bit of your personality.
-It gives me a small hint of what you like.
-It can show something you think.

Those are all first impressions which are non-avoidable. To answer your question: Yes, but because I don't really have a choice.

However, I do keep in mind that people can suprise me and there's more to it. I would take Neonbob as an example. His avatar says "Nuke the whales". However, I know that he isn't that blood thirsty since I had some time to know him a little.

I do, unless they have real pictures up. I judge people by their looks I guess.

Not unless the avatar happens to be offensive. I mean, it's just a picture the person in question thinks is cool. Mine is just a stupid fractal I made when I was bored one day, nothing more to it. Dunno how one could judge that...

I used to when I first joined. I used to assume that a lot of the users who had female anime/gaming avatars to be...well female. SO when I quoted someone and agreed with "her" and get a reply back that said "I'm a guy lol" or something like that. Now, before I quote someone, I check their profile and make sure that they are either a boy or a girl and since a lot of the users here are male with the female anime/gaming avatars, I usually know if they are a man but still check just in case I don't mess up.

Edit-Also, when they use the Emoticon like the "XD, >_<, or ^^" ones for example. I'd assume they were females since a lot of my female friends on Skype use them. Thanks to this user who explained what they are, I still kind of assume but not so much.

Well, what would you all think of me? :p

Along with avatars, there's also the 4 badge things being shown.

I'd probably say that you like ninjas and try to be stealthy but probably aren't
And this post is a good reason why Avatars are terrible to judge people by!

Perhaps we should only judge by how they type

I don't judge them as such, but when I picture these people, I percieve them as their avatar, so I suppose the answer to the question which I think you're asking is yes.

Only if it's one I can recognize. Otherwise I just kinda shrug it off. I like to read people's profiles and see what they have to say more often though. No one will ever learn anything about me from my icon though. ;3

I can't help it, I often do it.

For example, I disliked IdealistCommi and Furburt when I first started running into them simply because of their avatars. (Commies was the Peter Griffin one and Furburts was the first one he had). Don't know why, but I do do it. Can't help myself.

That's not to say I can't go back against that opinion easily.

If there's anyone else out their like me, I'd like to hear your thoughts about me. :p

Nice explaination. On a side note, I own a "Nuke the Whales" T-shirt, and it really isn't a serious kind of thing.

As for sites like this, depends on the Avatar. For instance, if they use a Yahtzee Avatar (Or any pre-chhosable Avatar) I will ignore them a little until they get one of their own.
I noticed this, but I didn't really notice it. Thanks for wording it for me.

It gets annoying.

I don't judge avatars, but I do remember them, so I can find the posts of interesting people faster.

So sorry man. (I don't recall if I quoted you and saying that, if so. I do apologize)

Not really no. I don't know that my little Fennec Fox means anything other than something I chose to amuse myself.

If people were using...say...more offensive images then yes I will judge them. Burning crosses, Nazi symbols, that sort of thing. I'm afraid that then I will automatically dismiss anything they say as being crap.
