EDIT: I'm well aware the all-important "heard but not read" option is missing, this is a strange problem to be sure

2nd EDIT: carry on as you were...

Just got back from a Father's Day meal with Dad.

Between courses, looking for something to entertain myself with, I put my hand over my mouth to imitate tendrils and said "Guess Who?"

"Who?" says my dad

"Cuthooloo!" (Cthulu). He was confused, and moreso when I explained that it was one of Lovecraft's stories. Turns out none of my family have ever heard of the Necrocommunicon writer.

I've NEVER read a single Lovecraft, but I at least KNOW who he is (enough to know that Cthulhu's incantation has "P'htaang" in it)

Just to be sure, have you ever read any Lovecraft? Which one(s)? Did you like them?

Read it, loved it.

(Some of it. Well, most of it. Call of Cthulhu isn't his best story by far, in my opinion. That would go to the Dunwich Horror.)

Ironically your poll misses out the group you belong to, which is also the response I was looking for, ah well

Yes, I have a copy of the necronomicon on the bookshelf behind me. I still haven't finished it, about 2/3rds of the way through. Genius, pure awesome, one of the best books ever. Need i say more?

I preferred colour out of space myself. My favourite one though, I can't remember its name. Its the one with the escape artist underneath the pyramids.

I know of, Have read his work and I loved it.
I have "The Cthulhu Mythos" book with him and a bunch of other writers in it (Some being close friend to him when he was alive)
Need to get my hands on the other books with his work in it.

All I know is he is the creator of the Necronomicon (Or Necrocommunicon, whatever), an idea I think came to him in a dream, not sure...
I have heard of him, never read any of his works though.

Kind funny how the OP's own choice isn't in the Poll.
There we go, now I can Vote.

Never read any of his work, because I can't find any. I've heard of him and wish to read.
The only time I've come across anything he wrote it was £30 so I went to the ATM and it had been sold by the time I go back.

Never read any of them but I know who Lovecraft is. It is kind of hard to be part of the internets culture without having at least heard of Cthulhu.

I have 'read' some of his books ( only from old radio theaters.. ),since no bookstores seems to know he exist.

Read it and loved it all except for his Dream Quest stories.

I think my favorite has to be The Whisperer in the Dark those accounts of Akely's time under siege by those things were amazingly tense
