I've read his short story Call of Cthulhu, The Mountains of Madness, and wholly intend the read the majority of his works. I feel H.P. Lovecraft displays an astounding amount of literary prowess, and enjoy his works to no end. If you're interested, there are several sites that contain his complete works. Dagonbytes is one of them, and is fairly good, but if you have an issue with plugins, I looked for another and found this: http://www.hplovecraft.com/

Haven't read it, but thanks to my time on the internet, I know the general Gist of the story.

Yeah, I've read some.

I'm sorry I didn't come across his books when I was a pre-teen, I was a bigger fan of that type of writing then. I've read plenty of old-times science fiction and fantasy, stuff like Jule Verne, and all sorts of writers I don't remember, with plenty first-person narrative stories that start similarly to "You'd never believe me, but...".

Good ol' Poe was always my favorite back then, too.

But, more on topic, yeah, I've read some of the Lovecraft's books and I'm well aware of most obvious things related to his writing - and frankly, I find it charming. He's not a very good writer at times, but some of the concepts are certainly great, cosmic horror is one of my favorite "genres" to be used and abused in science fiction. (although his writing obviously isn't science fiction, but the whole genre of cosmic horror, with beings so ultimately more powerful, strange, and malevolent to humans and similar mortals, very much fits my nihilistic view of the universe. And I love things like that in science fiction, as I've said before.)

Nah, I haven't read any, but I'm familiar enough with him. I know he was a huge influence on Eternal Darkness too, and that was pretty great.

Technically the spelling of the words doesn't matter all that much, since they're just approximations of sounds which were never meant to be heard by human ears anyway.

I've heard of him.
I'd even say he's one of my favorite authors.
I've read Cthulhu, At The Mountains of Madness (I have a paperback collection) and The Watchers out of Time (I also have a paper back collection of this.)

I enjoy his works.
[sup]But he was so damn racist...[/sup]

I'm going to buy his collection soon from Play.com. Considering how a lot of people here like his work, it should be good hopefully. :D

I know that he was a famous author and know of his invention of C'thulu which has since become famous among pop culture. I'm just sad to say that I have not read any of his books yet.

I've both heard of him, and read a bit of his stuff, though I have by no means read his entire body of work. To be entirely honest I think a lot of the other mythos writers were better than he was. Some of the best stories like "The Mound" were ones he acted as editor on rather than a writer, despite having been the source of the central concepts.

Then of course when I was doing PnP RPGs I of course played Call Of Cthulhu, however I'll be honest in saying I play RPGs for escapism so I'm not too fond of it in a "straight" format. I think the mythos works better when used along with other things. Not much sense in playing an RPG IMO if doom is inevitable, plus I've found it hard to take seriously at times when it's a foregone conclusion that your PC is 90% likely to die or go insane before the end of the campaign.
