Ok, i am not going to read all 7 pages of the thread to check if this has been said already, so if it has ignore this

The IQ test was developed to identify if you have mental retardation, if you score higher than an 80, your score doesn't matter, you have not mental handicap, having an IQ of 240 does not necessarily mean you are smarter than someone with an IQ of 100. The Man who developed the IQ test, Alfred Binet, personally believed that you can not represent human intelligence with one number (seriously, you can't).

It really pisses me off when i see internet adds like: This celebrity scored xyz on their IQ test, see if you are smarter than them. Yes i am, no matter what.

To answer the Question actually posed on the thread though, my IQ 3 years ago was 168

Show off. =(

yeah iq is 175-185 but it's a joke lads. the only people who care are the tools who join mensa (because they can't sail yachts or play golf) and people who use anecdotes in talks - "marilyn monroes IQ was 120. wow."

I'm having real trouble believing half of these. To give you a frame of reference, in "Flowers for Algernon", a Sci-fi book about a man who has surgery to increase his intelligence, when he's last tested he has an IQ of 180. He's considered a genius.
It might be possible Sci-Fi authors don't always know what they're talking about. It might also help to recall the George Carlin classic referring to half of people being by definition more stupid than the astounding idiocy of the average man. It cuts both ways.
I seriously doubt anyone on the Escapist is a genius.
OH, SNAP.

I claim my IQ to be cantaloupe. That's impossible to disagree with, isn't it?

Anyway, I've always been against IQ tests and have never taken one. Assigning numbers to a person's intelligence is like giving them a number for beauty or fishing prowess, the number is virtually worthless and varies greatly. I'll concede that a person with a high IQ tends to be or at least act more intelligent than a person with an average IQ, but what does that mean? Are they more logical, creative, knowledgeable? The test doesn't tell you that. That's why IQ tests, for lack of a better term, fail.

It doesn't help that there are different definitions of intelligence. It could be analytical skill, creative intuition, anything.

An example: My sax teacher can listen to a piece of music, and by the end of a chord sequence can improvise along with it - without any sort of effort.
I can't - I have to have seen the music, played through it a couple of times and listened to it played properly before I can even attempt something like that.
That said, he wouldn't be able to perform advanced calculus or anything like that. I still think he's one of the cleverest people I've ever met.

"Intelligence" is also affected by a person's mental state, tiredness, hydration, mood - it's impossible to measure it fairly.

I took a test in advance of kindergarten that pegged me at 190. I do not for one second believe that proves anything other than that my extremely analytical mind is well-suited for the kind of "intelligence" that the Stanford-Binet battery tests for. As far as "emotional IQ" goes I'm practically autistic and as far as practical knowledge goes any kid in shop class is better at it than I am. But analytical and straightforward logic knowledge? Super fucking genius. Big whoop, because outside of strategy gaming and trying to become an accountant, it don't amount to a fat bag of crap.

You think any of it had to do with your elitist jackass attitude? *directed at 60% of the whiney posters, especially those with "big dictionaries"*

You're calling 60% of us jackasses? That pretty much makes you a Troll, at least 60% of one :p

I'm with the disbelievers here, I haven't seen any comprehensive IQ tests out there. I saw one which was logic-based, where I scored highly. Another was based upon remembering sequences and images, where I pretty much scored the same as a regular goldfish.

On Test The Nation, an IQ test broadcast by the BBC annually, I last scored 129, and the one before that 146- so clearly, there is a significant amount of leeway there.

I took mine when I was about 12, and I can't remember what it was, and considering all the "FREE IQ TESTS" online end up trying to make me pay money, I won't find out what it is for a while.

I don't know if the test the nation one is official, however, can't you get into MENSA if you get over 140, I was 3 points off of the cutoff, not that I would of tried joining, far too lazy!!!

Mine changes depending on the test, I've tried some of the actual ones and got between 130 and 160 so I'm somewhere in there. I'm not that smart, I'm just good at IQ tests.

Seeing as some dislike numbers I'd say somewhere around or above 'Above Average'.

On multiple internet IQ tests, I've averaged around 135 but I'm not going to say I know it as I haven't taken a real one.
