So this thread is more geared towards people, like me, that preferred Saints Row 2 rather than Saints Row 3(from now on SR2 and SR3 respectively, well sometimes).

So I know you all liked Saints Row 2 better than 3, but my question is, does your enjoyment of SR2 make it so you cannot enjoy SR3?

This part is my answer so if you don't care you can just skip down and answer. I love Saints Row 2 but I do not let that get in the way of my enjoyment of Saints Row 3. I was playing SR3 last night and I was just having a blast with it. I was hunkered down in the HQ garage and was fending off the entire steelport army alone while listening to classical music. It was awesome. This is when I realized that while Saints Row 2 was better Saints Row 3 does have its moments.

SR3 is better, in my opinion, on account of actually being playable on the PC.

It's a fun game, but there's no real depth there.

In Grand Theft Auto, I'm happy just driving around the city, soaking in the atmosphere.

Saints Row 3 just doesn't have that.

Yes, very fun game. Lacking in the customisation and story compared to the second, but better in every other aspect, so overall I prefer it.
The second isn't bad, of course not, it's great, but everything just feels so much better in the third.

Yeah, although it wasn't as good as Saints Row 2. I would still consider it more fun than GTA IV though.

Mechanically it was mush better then SR2, the rest was just turned into a parody of itself... which is a good short laugh but it quickly gets old when you notice there is no substance in there.

Even being far shorter made me wish it would end after only playing a couple of hours, but I pressed on hoping there is a point to it all, sadly there is not.

it just felt empty to me, storywise it was incredibly weak, to the point it barely made sense, it had too many characters almost all of whom were new, and all were some degree of irritating, and the characters they did keep were barely recognizable.
customisation was all but lost, there wasnt very much to do, and what there was, there was no reason to do.

the gameplay was improved in areas i'll give that, but theyre hidden away behind this newfound outrageous sillyness, (SR2, was a little silly, but no more so than say GTA)but the new tone kind of ruined it for me

I've often found myself saying that Saints Row 2 was the game GTAIV should have been, but Saints Row 3, has gone to the opposite end of the scale becoming a wacky cartoon of itself and the genre

SR3 is nothing compared to SR2. The only thing is has better are graphics in general and it runs better, oh, and weapon upgrades.

SR2 as a game and story crushes SR3. Saints Row 3 was one of the biggest gaming disappointments for me since Spore.

Saints Row 2 balanced the crazy stuff with realism much better. Saints Row 3 skewed that way too much towards crazy. 3 also has far, FAR less dialogue, cutscenes, and has very forgettable villains.

They had some cool missions here and there, but they just changed the recipe too much. Took out too many good things from 2 and replaced it with stuff far less interesting.

Yeah, I like it but it kind of lacks depth and after a while you're just hunting around for collectables.
I think SR2 was better but I've not played SR2 in at least a year or two so I could be misremembering but I do think it felt more like a complete experience.

Enjoyed it much more than SR2.

Kind of missed playing dress up, wasn't nearly as much in SR3, but that was it.

SR2 tries to be all srs bznz during the story missions, then bizarre as fuck during the side stuff. It's really weird having it so divided like that.

SR3 was at least consistent in it's level of silliness.

No options for those of us that didn't play SR2 but still like 3.

It's amazing fun with a friend, I can see why it might get a bit boring by yourself but still, I love a lot of the "aesthetic" (if you can call it's ridiculousness an aesthetic xD) and a lot of it made me laugh, which you don't see enough of in a lot of games.

The opening tells you all of this, where your character is falling with a woman in his arms, decides to go through the front window of a plane, punches/shoots everybody as he flies through the plane at about 50 mph and grabs a parachute on the way out, catching the woman again afterwards. You instantly know exactly what direction this game is going in, and at least it acknowledges how ridiculous it's action and comedy is. I really do love it.

A fun game but it lacks...substance

Don't get me wrong, the game pretty much runs on bullshit insane shit and that's all very good and all, but it just...something missing.

Some days, you just don't feel like parachuting off of your tower and beating someone to death with a giant dildo bat.

It is really fun through the main story, which is so fucking awesome, but once you finish that its shallowness really shows. It's still always fun to play around for 30 mins at a time just to blow shit up though.

Also voted better than SR2 because this game actually works on PC.

I really like it, sure they really skimped on some content for some bizzare reason and the game seems to use "tell don't show" story mechanics at times which is just bad in any form of media.

It's still funny and ridiculous and is just hella fun to play in general. Better than SR2 I would say albeit in a different way. I never felt like the game was cutting content in SR2 that's for sure :/

Every time I start a new game I have to pick a new voice because they always say different things and have different personalities... It's a good form of replay value for me. Personally I find the Russian chick having a secret crush on Pierce to be adorable :3

How about options for those of us who haven't played SR2? I liked SR3, but I don't have a clue about SR2.

Saints Row 2 was vastly superior. Why?

Why the hell did they scrap that station?!

Other than that SR3 was an amusing diversion. Just one of those 'for the lulz' games.

Can you blame them? It's foolish to compete with GTA so they carved themselves their own niche. Smart move if you ask me.

Agree with this post, though I have to say Killbane was pretty cool and would've been better had he not been a luchadore.

OT: SR2 was better, the story was wacky at points but still knew to occasionally come up for air of seriousness.

Case and point, the death of carlos was a wonderfully sad scene.

In SR3 JOHNNY FUCKING GAT dies and he's mentioned about 2 times throughout the whole thing, I mean...what? Johnny was the bosses best friend and he's just gone?

And don't get me started on Shaundi...

I preferred 2's story but like everything else about 3 better....Mainly because 2 is so glitchy even on my machine that can run games like Witcher 2 on high.

The only bad part about 3 is Gat dies.
