I remember seeing this versus thing they did with the IRA versus the taliban.
The IRA won.
Western terrorists > Eastern terrorists!
Or Western Freedom Fighters > Eastern Terrorists depending on your point of view.

I enjoy the whole thing.. right up to the final fight. It's decently done visually, but it doesn't really take into account anything more than the weapons used by each side. I'm not looking for total historical accuracy here but how often would encounters of the two warriors really end up in a straight one on one battle, especially with things like knights or ninjas who would almost never fight one on one in real comhat.

I enjoy the show. although I know that it cannot be taken seriously at all. The show is essentially the same argument as superman vs goku. Also known as the ultimate mouth-breathing-fanboy argument.

The XBLA game is fun.

I find it entertaining enough that I watch it every week but it's not like I have my face plasterd agaist the TV waiting for it to be on (I have my left wing propaganda shows to hold my interest till then).

The one time I actually got mad was the Persian immortal vs the Celt. The "testers" had a giant hard on for the immortal's spear which to me just wasn't as impressive. however it got 247 kills vs. the Celt's lancea which got only 126. now if you watch the damn episode the lancea is a much more versatile weapon and if you ask me would be just as useful on a chariot as the Persian's spear. In addition how the fuck do the chariot scythes get more kills the the burda when in testing it barely did anything.

Sometimes the results contradict what the "experts" say and that royally pisses me off.

Meh It's entertaining just to see crap get cut up good and the final battles are always entertaining. Call me crazy but I bet Spoony is what gave you the idea for this thread...

lol I love it! sure a lot of the comparing tests are inaccurate and unfair. (Jesse James vs. Al Capone = Revolver vs. tommy gun!? WTF?) but god damn it is awesome

The show is good if you don't take it seriously, and the simulations are well done. Watching a Spartan hack a Ninja apart is very appealing.
This, I no doubt find it entertaining but I cant help but to yell at the TV when [warrior A] beats [warrior B] when the very idea of something like that happening is just utterly ridiculous!

But hey, I guess that means the show is doing its job well.

Yeah, as long as you take it with a fucking large grain of salt. I still don't think a 5'3 Chinese monk could win against a 6'4 Maori warrior..
Actually, that I can believe because of those hooks. But how many monks would actually have those steel hooks is what I find kinda... meh.

Oh, and that huge grain of salt? I don't think our oceans are big enough...

It's awesome.
Just turn your brain off, skip all the 'science' and just get straight to the weapon testing and the fights, and it's fun.
Do I go there for accuracy though? Fuck no. I'm not stupid.

Reviewing period weapons and methods of using those weapons; good idea.
Discussing the mindsets and cultures that created the "Warriors" themselves; good idea.
Everything else about this show; Bad idea.

My biggest hangup is the "my dad is going to beat up your dad" bullshit that goes back and forth on screen. While I'm convinced that it's all just part of the show (I refuse to think the experts they bring in for demonstrations are really so childish...), but it still reminds me of watching the UFC after Lesner got involved.
My other big issue is context; Gladiators fought in arenas, Ninjas worked in teams, etc, etc, and pitting one against another in a neutral setting proves nothing.

But it did make me think of another, older, show that was in a similar vein and fun to watch; Conquest. Anyone else remember that one?

The tests and fights are often very weird. The rules are too narrow. The "opinions" of the team is often skewed and not really rational. The "guests" are mostly horrible (i think the editing is to blame... and the scripts)

BUT THEY BLOW SHIT UP and hack pigs apart *g*.

So yeah, entertaining, but not much substance. I watch it.

It seems cool, but when you get down to it, it's just a bunch of weapon nuts geeking out over some guy chopping up beef lumps. Add a lot of fancy effects, deep-voiced narration, and the dubious history the history channel is so famous for, and you've got a rather mediocre show.

I saw it as basically a pissing contest between two "experts" who were probably paid to get way too into it. The information is usually inaccurate at best and pants-on-head-retarded at worst, the only good part being the last five minutes when the battles occur.

So no, I'm not a fan.

I didn't even know the show, and the fact that the video game tied into it, existed until recently, so I have no opinion.

But from what I've read it sounds stupid, juvinile, and pure pseudoscience, but it's still enjoyable if you turn off your brain and enjoy the pretty colors.

Guess I'll have to check it out to see for myself, but I'm going to play a little devil's advocate here;

Mythbusters does the exact same thing without dumbing themselves down. Why does this show?
