I only ever have outside music playing when I'm playing certain EA games that include the atrocious "EA Trax" system...so right now that would be Skate 2 and Burnout Paradise. I'll put on either Iron Maiden or Dragonforce, so it's not too bad. (Skate 2 even has a Dragonforce song on the soundtrack.)

Nothing is funnier than nuking an enemy base on SupCom while hearing "Don't stop me now, I'm having a good time, having a good time..." playing from my enourmous sound system.

I love raising hell in the GTA world to "I Can't Decide" personally.

I played a whole mess of 80's songs while playing Gears of War 2. Carving someone up to the Weird Science theme song is the best.

When I playing Team Fortress 2 late I like to put on Collin Murry on Radio 1. His show is from 10 to 12 and he plays some really, really weird shit.

One of his main shows is "Audio Bully" which is basically a mix of...well, everything. I don't just mean music either. For instance, you'll hear a cool remix of Arctic Monkeys Brain Storm then Family Guy with sing about the PTA, then theres the sound of David Attenbor talking to some monkeys, the Bob Dillon will be played over the top, then theres what sounds like a porn movie and so on. Its really weird, but hilarious, and surprisingly relaxing. This mix with me blowing people to liquid shit on TF2 is pretty awesome.

Oh, did I mention he played "Still Alive" from Portal the other night? It's one of the most surreal things I've ever heard on the radio, simply because it was so unlikely, and really out of context (99% of the people listening must of been thinking "WTF is this?")

It was pretty weird when I was playing HL2 on mute, while a friend beside me was playing Kirby 64...

The only time I can think of was where I listened to 'Blackout' by Muse whilst playing Star Wars Battlefront. Surprisingly, it did fit when I looked around to see my teammates getting gunned down by the Empire...

Tiny Tim singing Livin' in the Sunlight, most inappropriate song ever. Yet oddly...goes with anything.

I like to listen to cool jazz while playing shooters. I enjoy the surrealism, and for some reason I pay better.
I use classical music for that ;-) Nothing says death an destruction like The Blue Danube [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CTYymbbEL4] ;-) I used to reserve my jazz (Coltrane, Monk, Parker, Davis, things like that) for raiding in WoW, I don't know why.
Listening to Ezzzy FM in Saints Row 2 while plowing your way through tons of civilians (yes, they do get launched away Team Rocket style) is pretty disturbing, as you can hear in this video [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvZYPOQRcSY]. 1950's Style easy-listening tunes...aaa, how relaxing during so much violence. Especially from emm 4:22, yea that song is awesome.

Yup, also perfect for death and destruction. Listeing to that while playing Ninja Gaiden 2 is kickass, all those limbs flying around.

Having my music on shuffle usually means there are a few questionable selections. One favourite was "Lets Dance" whilst in the middle of Halo.

My brother used to listen to really creepily inappropriate music for what he was playing on his computer. Like "Raindrops are Falling on My Head" while he was carving people up in Postal. I guess this phenomenon is more of a PC gaming thing because of mp3s being on the computer, and consoles not being able to play music and games at the same time. Unless you hook a stereo in.

Am I the only one who listened to the Sweeney Todd soundtrack while playing online Counter-Strike while running with a knife? Have you ever cranked up the Michael Jackson hit Thriller while you play Left 4 Dead, or Jonathan Coulton's Re: Your Brains as an equal substitute?

J-RPGs are a difficult one to listen to inappropriate music for, since half their marketability for their core audience is their original scores, but personally I think Eternal Sonata could have used some Metallica songs to balance out the picturesqueness. Or some Dethklok.

Do you listen to inappropriate music while gaming instead of the prescribed game score just to keep things interesting?
I thought I was the only one who's heard of ELO from this generation.

Anyway, it depends. If it's something like Starcraft, and I play it online a lot, and the game only has like 3 tracks per race...Yes, I'm going to listen to my own music. I'm going to listen to the game's music first, and going to listen to it in single player, but online, I either have none on for tactical reasons(FPS) or I listen to my own soundtracks to build calm and focus (RTS). Especially in a game like WoW which I haven't played in a while, but farming anything was made a lot easier when listening to some music I truly enjoy (Not to say that the game doesn't have good music, but a lot of it is repetitive or reused).

Also, I have an odd desire to murder people to the Lego Racers build music.

That strikes me as being like an acid trip.I love to play fantasy games when listining to In Sorte Diaboli by Dimmu borgir. Black Metal with an Orchestra behind it while hacking peeps to bits is kinda awesome
