I listen to my mad indie compilation of experimental sound (mostly looped tracks of cats squalling, with someone who sounds like Kermit the Frog reciting the alphabet backwards) while playing Rock Band.

I like to listen to Mr. Happy by Insane Clown Posse anytime I'm mad in real life, which seems to be inappropriate no matter what I'm playing.

Eddie Grant's "Electric Avenue" when playing Gears 2

I don't know why but it really works well with Horde mode and helps me and my friends rake up the kills

No, but I often watch films while gaming. Vietnam war films go well with World in Conflict, and Reservoir Dogs goes well with shooters.

The only time I ever listen to music while gaming is when I play Fallout 3 since the radio got fucked up, and won't play music without sounding all choppy and distorted. Some of my music can be construed as inappropriate.

Consoles can do this too, OP. All except the Wii I think, actually.

And definately the Chris Rock stand up album on Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. I don't know how the fuck that got on my PS3... but it was funny as hell.

Apart from that a bit of Rasmus while ripping into pedestrians and policemen (or police officers to be politically correct) in Saints Row 2 seems to balance it out.
Unless you're talking about their latest crap, the Dead Letters album have some songs that could actually fit while you do that.
Mm, i prefer to massacre to their earlier works. Are you a slipknot fan by any chance?

My brother used to listen to really creepily inappropriate music for what he was playing on his computer. Like "Raindrops are Falling on My Head" while he was carving people up in Postal.
I have a long history of paradoxical score choices, I remember in '95 when I installed the Doom shareware and ran around with a rocket launcher while listening to a golden oldie called "Oh Mein Papa".

I topped that many years later when I pressed a green-red button in a game of Doom Legacy during computer class, at precisely that moment someone in class pressed play on their Tokyo Bubblegum Pop album, which coincidentally played from the speakers on my desk.
Surreal minutes of cheerful hyper and shrieking helldaemons ensued.

It sort of works for consoles, me and a buddy once played a mix tape leading with the Mortal Kombat movie music while playing Sega Master System II's 'Dragon' two-player beat-em-up.

I do enjoy finding something especially appropriate for a game. Like Drowning Pool: Bodies is the unofficial theme of Battlefield 2 (Just check out the number of BF2 Youtube Vids that use it.)

So many moments....

Playing GTA San Andreas, and going on a Las Venturas rampage with "what a wonderful world" playing in the background.

Playing Gears of War 2 with the Bill Nye the Science Guy* theme song playing. Kinda funny when you carve someone up.

"BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY! BILL BILL BILL BILL! BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY *Chainsaws some poor sod* Science rules!"

*Bill Nye the Science Guy was this television show that aired when I was around five years old, and happened to be my favorite show at the time.

I used to listen to Ray Stevens music while playing Final Fantasy Tactics.

The best thing is when the game itself provides inappropriate music to play. Scarface: The World is Yours lets you chainsaw dope dealers to "Superfreak" or even "Vamos a Bailar."

Actually the entire Scarface OST is available, and most of it isn't appropriate to what you'll be doing in the game. I love inappropriate music. Incongruity is great. It's like the Reservoir Dogs "ear" scene... Ah...

Yes, I am a sick freak, apparently.

I don't know, would a song about a bunch of holy guys raping and killing a girl be appropriate playing any game?

If i am playing a game for the first time then no i do not listen to music, it helps to focus on the game the first time round. However if i am playing multiplayer, or a single player campaign for the second or third time then yes i do listen to music.

Also, as most people do, with their playlists on shuffle, occasionally you will get a song that doesn't quite fit with what you are playing. For example, while painting a wall red with a Machine Gun and a very unlucky German in Call of Duty, i found myself listening to Still Alive from Portal.
