Pretty self explanatory, do you?

Personally it depends on the game. If I'm playing a game like COD where you have to constantly be on alert then I don't (same for minecraft and the like). However if I'm playing a racing game or a beat em up then I might listen to something fast and high tempo to get me pumped. If I'm playing a point and click, sports game or mmorpg then I'll usually listen to whatever I want as distractions don't really matter too much.

Let me know what you think! :)

Generally speaking I do. I like classic relaxing rock music mainly but will also often have GamerFM on.

Never.

Sound plays a big part in being immersed in a game. I don't like to bring anything from real life into my gaming.

Sometimes i'll listen to music when playing an MMO or perhaps when on Minecraft (Not during nighttime though, don't want anything Creepering up on me).

I'll also play music when on Counter-Strike warcraft mod sometimes.

I only really while playing WoW. While the music in that game isn't bad, when you're playing hours on end and having the same music loop over and over along with the various combat sounds, it can get pretty tireing. Other than that, I usually enjoy the ingame sounds, first and foremost in singleplayer games. As MiracleOfSound states, sound plays a big role in a video game being immersive.

During WoW I play my own music, or watch a film/tv in the background. I can't stand the sound of that game. Especially during something like a dungeon, just non-stop bad music, grunting & screaming. (I've seen the worst of pornos with better sound than this).

Even in the cities or exploring, when you'd expect some nice music to 'draw you in and RP' isn't great. Bring on TOR with BioWare's epic musical score!! <3

When I'm playing casually, yes I listen to music most of them time. =3
But when I'm try-harding on CoD or Halo with my turtle beaches on..

I swear I posted in this thread last month...

I used to a fair bit but it depends on the game - used to always with CoD4 + WaW but since Mw2 became a footstep extravaganza I had to stop... also getting bitched at for singing along quietly when I had my headset on...

Used to play music a bit when doing solo play in WoW and any other game that could handle running it in the background

I was listening to Viva La Vida just yesterday while playing Left 4 Dead 2, Hard Rain on Expert...

It's surprisingly good zombie killing music...

I don't have a proper speaker system in my room so I just use my TV's speakers. As all my music is on my PC and my xbox and PC are on the same tv I can't. However, if I'm playing a PC game like an MMO or a small casual game then usally I will just hit iTunes and press play.

I'll run music unless the game is dialogue heavy (my eyesight isn't great, so it's hard to keep up with subtitles if there's too many of them), or if I have faith in the epicness of the music of the game (ie - God of War III).

Only if the game doesn't really require immersion. I play music with Minecraft all the time, as with CoD or Halo multiplayer.

or if it's multiplayer.

I can see how that could work, it keeps you calm so you can focus... I gotta try that now
