I'm from the Netherlands and since the last elections I find myself liking it less and less. Not just because the present government pisses me off (CDA & VVD supported by PVV, basically right wing libertarian Christian anti-Islamic fascist). But more so because I realize they're pretty much supported by half of our electorate (current polls predict support of about 49.3%). Hell considering that not all the parties I disagree with are currently part of the government (SGP & CU aren't). I can only conclude that I vehemently disagree with the political views of the majority of this nation. Which means they're either not so smart or not so nice, in my opinion.

That said I still like it better than most nations out there, except for maybe Sweden, Norway & Denmark (honourable mention to the UK for producing excellent music & television).

I definitely hate it here! And I live in the US. I plan to move to the UK here in a short few years. :3
dude the UK is not much better the bureaucracies are absurd. My father is from the UK he says the cost of living is ridiculous the weather isn't that nice and the government will rob you with these ridiculous taxes. Australia is probably a lot better, their economy is good and they have very nice beaches.

No, patriatism is something thats always eluded me. Why a man would display such pride and affection towards a large mass of land is a mystery to me.
It's not the land, it's the country. The society, the culture, the people, and everything else that makes a country
To me its a large chunk of rock inhabited by people, most of whom are assholes. All that other stuff is excess, that barely manges to function to a significant degree, its a good thing you left out government too, because that wouldn't have been a point in your favour.

It's.....not for me. The electricity goes out too often. The net is shitty. And it's hot as hell. Plus the society. overall is a backwards ass cesspool of anachronistic Idiocy.

.....and I'm sure that the majority of the 170 million people in this country don't mind ANY of those things AT ALL. I do. Call me an entitled snob. I might even deserve it. But that's my honest opinion.
I am kind of curious where you live now
Click my name and check my flag.....Okay I'll stop being lazy: Bangladesh. I am probably moving to the US this fall though....

I live in a country that many people hate because it's not as good as it used to be(Take a wild guess?) but after spending a few years in other countries I have come to realize that I love living here and it's still better than most other places. :D and I don't plan on leaving unless something happens changing the circumstances.

"I live there" is an excellent option. Thank you for including it.

Seeing as I think patriotism is a silly, insular notion at best, no, I do not love my country. I do appreciate growing up in a quite progressive such, but I don't feel any pride over the fact.

My country gives me money to go to university. I like it.

Patriotism is bullshit though.

That's always hard to say. Honestly, I would say Japan is more of a home to me (in which case I should have voted "I love it" instead of "I like it", I guess) but in the states, people don't treat me like a foreigner (which, ironically makes me feel uncomfortable).
I don't know, but when facing questions like this I usually revert to saying the U.S. is my home country since that's the one I can vote in. :/
hiya! apologies for butting in, but I was reading this thread and got curious.

If you don't mind my asking, what is your ethnicity? Because I'm kind of getting the impression that you're white, or at least partially white? You got me curious, because most non-Japanese people here (I'm in Japan right now) are, you know, people who are here to teach or to study or whatever else (like me), so our experiences are fairly similar. But I'm assuming you've done all of your schooling here and were raised bilingual (to which I just have to say you're so lucky, because us monolingual peasants struggle with learning Japanese like woah). What's it like going through all of your schooling in Japan as a gaijin? I realise I'm being incredibly nosy, but your circumstances are quite unique, as I'm sure you know.

Err, yes, as for me, I love Australia, intensely, and lately I've been finding myself loving it more and more and wanting to go back, set up home there, all the rest. I've not lived there for nearly three years, and I suppose absence makes the heart grow fonder. I will say however that our government seems (I'm not living there, so I can't talk as though I've experienced it for myself) to be sucking hardcore right now, which is a real bummer. Bring back the Howard days?

Mmmm... if beaches can sell you a country. It's hot as buggery there though, it's constantly in drought, our government at present kind of blows (although compared to the UK, even stevens perhaps)

Yeah, the British economy does suck, I'll grant you that. But I'd say to people considering moving to Australia that they should seriously think about it. If nice beaches sell a country to you, fine. But it's hot as buggery there, we're constantly in drought, we're far away from everywhere, we're a different hemisphere (which is actually a more dramatic thing than it sounds. I hate the way the Northern Hemisphere works. Christmas is supposed to be hot, dammit), and this is a gaming website... australian releases suck.
I love my country, but if it wasn't my country I'd be a bit hesitant about it, I think.

I'm an American. I think Henry Rollins summed it up best when he was speaking before an audience in Israel: "America - good bunch of people, poorly managed. We'll get to that later..."

It's hard to say I have a love for my "country" when the United States is so large. There's so much you could love or hate, that to say "I love my country" basically is a meaningless phrase here.

In general, I dislike the system of government we have set up here, but I have nothing against American culture.

I love and hate America. I hated where I used to live on the East Coast, far enough south to be hot and humid during the summer, but right outside of DC. Traffic sucked, people were stupid, and it was kinda dull. I now live in the Pacific Northwest, among the glorious evergreens and the Cascade Mountains (also a couple volcanoes but whatever), and I love it here. Not too hot during the summer, and I can handle the cold.

Of course, the stupid people are everywhere, but I know that the vast majority of Americans aren't like that, it's just somehow the stupid ones are the most vocal. Empty rooms have the loudest echo and all that.

I don't particularly feel like I have a 'home' country.

I'm an outsider everywhere, despite where I was born, and the nationalities I hold, I just don't feel like I'm really a part of any nation.

So, wherever I am now is... The place that I live.
Home insofar as the people closest to me have the greatest effect on my life, and those furthest away the least.

Outside of that, it doesn't matter.
