Almost always. I can relate to my character better that way.

The only exception is in The Elder Scrolls games. The Kahjhit are fucking bad-ass.

If Dwarf is available they are always my first choice, other than that I just go for the strong melee race.

That's for my first play-through anyway, after that I'll go for the race with the best bonuses for the class I'm going to play.

I usually pick human characters but sometimes i will pick another race, sometimes for stats and sometimes for the roleplay element

Depends on how their stats help or hinder the character and play style I want.
Exactly, I find most of the times humans are given as the 'neutral' race and that for whatever character I want to play there is a race which tailors more to the specific class I want.

In games in which it's an aesthetic choice I do usually have at least 1 human character. Usually a human warrior.

Most often; No

But it really depends on the game.

I do have a thing for blue skin, though - I always play as a dumner in Morrowind and Oblivion, and all my highlevel WoW characters were draenei (well, except one... which was a night elf...)

I generally prefer to play human if there are options. Just easier to immerse myself into a game that way. Half-elf, elf, and other such humanoid types are also fine.

Of course it's all about the Dwarves.

With our silly Scottish accents and two handed axes and drinking problems and bar fights and beards...

Yes if dwarfs count, i tend to play them when they're available, and if not then i go for humans.

Good question, I tend to move towards the regular human/good character, but recently I've been trying to make the gaming experience more interesting by choosing Night Elf in Oblivion for instance.

Yes, because humans are usually given the "jack-of-all-trades" stats (as in, not amazing at everything, but not bad at anything either) I often play as a human.
But I usually have multiple characters in games so I play a variety of races.

I X2:The Threat: though you are human I used alien ships
You should grab up Terran Conflict if your PC can run it. It has multiple starts that use the different races with their own objectives and storylines.

OT: In my time with X3: Reunion I had at least one ship from each race except the Split because I couldn't get them to trade with me and I wasn't feared enough to get them bail on me when I attacked them.

If the selection of races is the usual D n' D stock bunch, I usually prefer a human character. Elves are jerks, dwarves are boring, orcs are one-note, and no one ever cares about halflings or gnomes. Humans don't have a stock personality, so I can do whatever I darn well please.

If the races get more creative, then I'll be more likely to choose a different one. I'd be more likely to jump at the opportunity to be a four-armed alien or a an anthropomorphic tree or something.

I usually play as a human, but there are some games where if given the option I just prefer aliens. I love the elites from halo and playing as locust in gears of war has always appealed to me more.

While dwarfs are my favorite fantasy race, I often find it hard to use them because their short frames distort the armour I worked so hard to get. As such I usually end up with human.

Fortunately for me, humans aren't bad at anything in most games so it works out.

It's been a while since I've played a game where you weren't a human.

But, if there are elves, I'd do it, become a girl, and set the booby bar on maximum.

I go with what ever will give me the best build for my style of play. But I am kinda vain about my characters so i will sometimes take a hit to stats if it means my character will be pretty. That's stupid I know but that's just the way I am.

Generally my first character is human because I find it an easy way to adjust to the setting, and then I try the others.
