In England as most people have said we mostly call stuff by the name on the can. The only exceptions being cheap knockoff fizzy drinks that are either coke or lemonade, any coke like drink that is mixed with vodka or rum is termed coke and old people might refer to fizzy drinks as pop. I've never heard anyone who isn't American say soda and whenever someone does I think of Baking soda...

I'm from the UK and I'll call the specific beverage by its name. As a group I call them fizzy drinks though.

im gonna agree with carnkhan4, tho sometimes i just call em fizzy drinks, i never call em soda unless it is actually soda water

and when i use coke its only for coke and pepsi really even tho i prefer pepsi...
