If I liked the movie or it was any good, I like to sit through the credits. I don't really care about reading them, or "giving due credit" to the people who made it, because it's not like I know any of those people anyway. It is not relevant information to me to know that Scott McSteverson was the head gaffer. I'm never going to need to know that, and I will never meet Scott McSteverson to tell him how great a job he did.
But what I DO stay for the credits is the winding down, digesting all the events of the movie, and discussing it with my friends (and bonus at the end if there is one). If it is a well done movie, the music of the credits and perhapse even the visuals of the credits are going to make a good atmosphere and ambiance for just sitting and thinking about the movie you just watched (and discussing your thoughts with friends). There have been times where at the end of a movie I was just thinking, "that was so awesome, I think I need a minute to just let it all soak in."
