the campaign is the main reason I buy a shooter! (with the exception of TF2 wich only has multiplayer)

I personally almost never play multiplayer. Online multiplayer is just not fun for me, and all of my friends are either not into video games or really sore losers, so I don't really have a chance to play much offline multiplayer either.

As for Doom, yeah, I played it. I remember spending hours editing config.sys and autoexec.bat trying to get it to run on my poor little 20 MHz 486SX.

Yes, and some of them like MW1 are actually really good.

Campaign, that is the only reason I play most shooters.
Why?

Counter Strike,
Battlefield 2,
Day of Defeat: Source,

These games have already been made, nothing released since has had multiplayer good enough to tempt me away for any length of time. Modern Warfare 1 came close, but 2 and Blops blew it. So if the campaign sucks the chances are I'll be finished with a new shooter inside a week, Halo Reach barely lasted a day longer even with the multi player.

I don't do MP enough to buy a game exclusively just for the Multi
So ya...campaigns would the only reason I buy shooters. Can I have a poll option for that?

Always play the campaign first. It's training for multiplayer. Sometimes I stick with the campaign because it's more enjoyable (Any Halo game, for example)

I usually finish the campaign before touching multiplayer, but there are a few exceptions to that...

I always finish the Campaign then head onto Multiplayer. It's practically preparing you for it so I'll take all the help I can get.

It really depends on which game we're talking about...

There wasn't an option for 'play the multiplayer, rage quit and try out the single player for something to do.'

Campaign. To paraphrase: A good game has to stand on singleplayer alone.
Some shooters I'll give the multiplayer a go, I even enjoy some multiplayer-shooters like Team Fortress 2 and Quake Live. But normally if I buy a game at full price with my limited economy, I expect the single-player to hold up on it's own.

In all my games I always play the single player. Thats what I am more interested in. Multiplayer for me is more like a bonus.

Yes. In my opinion they put far more effort into the single player campaigns, especially in the Call of Duty series, which is a shame as most people play it once, some don't even finish it, and some don't even play it at all.

Of course I do.
Hell, I'm playing through Zeno Clash (for the first time) now, but then again it's singleplayer only... Whatever. It kicks ass, that's all I need to know.

Now it needs a deathmatch multiplayer feature...

I only play the campaign. Multiplayer doesn't appeal to me unless I'm playing with friends and those friends are all in the same room with me, which is a rare set of circumstances.
