I don't play anymore. I started to, then I realized I was paaying $15 a month for a game that I didn't play everyday, was more based on my equipment and grinding then my skill or knowledge of game mechanics, and even if I did make it all the way to Level 80 I would've had basically nothing but faction grinding to look forward to, or torturing myself with another character.
I went back to playing Guild Wars. Its free online, is based more on skill and knowledge then gear (you can get your classes best stat gear almost as soon as you get to level 15 in all three campaigns.) and grinding, has a better community, nicer community, the ability to switch servers at will, easier to understand, fun to master gameplay, where unless its high-end Dungeon Crawling or PvP, you can make any skill set work if you come at it with some logic. Further an actual, narrated main quest and story makes the game more fun to play, even if it is cheesy.
Also character development is fast enough, and fun enough that another character feels more like an experience, rather then a chore.

I've played on and off since the game came out. But after about a month of playing WOTLK I was out questing and had a thought, "wow this is just not so fun anymore." I logged off right there and haven't played since. That was back in Nov I believe.
I keep playing because it's fun to watch the haters froth at the mouth over a game they don't understand. That and the people, and the memories, and the sweet lewt. If you play WoW in the right way for you (there are a million ways) then it's a damn good game. It has something to offer any player with any amount of time or skill, because of the huge range of options provided. The game has options for the grind lovers and plenty of places to demonstrate your skill and knowledge of the game and it's nuances. Anyone who has done some PvP at any level or tried to accomplish decent DPS or healing in a raid or instance can tell you gear means nothing if you can't do the job.

I have quite an interesting little story, on this front. Before WoW came along, my father and I were quite into a game called Priston Tale, which was your typical crappy Korean grindfest, which I enjoyed, because I was a child, and he enjoyed, because he enjoyed mindless gaming as an escape mechanism to his shit job.
Anyhow, WoW came along, and I decided to give it a go, and playing the game for the first time was one of the biggest buzzes that I've ever had (in the game buzz dept.), and was like "OMGTHISGAMEISAWESOMEetc.", and (eventually) got my father into WoW as well, after he got over the fact that it wasn't point and click. That was 3 years ago. I went off WoW halfway through the BC stages, which was all well and proper, but he's definately hooked into the hype.

I'm not usually one for aphorisms, but..."absence makes the heart grow fonder." I still remember when I went back from my first break, and spent an hour reacquainting myself with the controls, my storage, the Auction House, the copper veins outside Dun Morogh, and my equipment...all with the purpose of building a spyglass. It was one of the most fun hours I've had in the game.Gormourn said:

I quit during WotLK - I like the PvE and certain PvP aspects but never really got into the whole raiding thing, which is all that you can actually do with high-level characters. I started making personal objectives to accomplish in the game - did them all, and now can't think of anything else to do in the game.
Plus all my friends have stopped now. Peer pressure and all that jazz

I just started a few months ago and I'm having quite a bit of fun. I'm doing something which is apparently rather uncommon, leveling 4 alts together. Sure, I don't level very fast, but power levelling doesn't really appeal to me. Sure, you get stronger, but things get harder and it pretty much stays the same in the end. Having four, if I get bored or frustrated with one of them, I just switch to the other for a change of pace. The other night, I came to the realization that, when it comes to tanking, I suck to an almost impressive degree. I don't feel like watching by druid's furry, waddling bear ass get repeated kicked tonight, so I'm going to play my warlock or hunter instead.
It seems to me that doing the same thing over and over is something of a choice the user makes, not an enforced feature of the game. You have to grind to level? Well quit leveling then. Go do something else. My favorite boredom/frustration antidote is to go around being nice to people for no reason. I enchant their stuff, give them potions, upgrade their gear, follow them around and heal them so that they don't have to spend so much time grinding themselves.
But then again, I'm not into the real life equivalent of leveling, collecting shiny stuff, or acquiring a lot of gold. In my life, all I really want it the freedom to do whatever the hell I feel like, even if it's just wandering around doing nothing. And in real life, I love reverse trolling, which is to be kind to people just to see how they react. If I could follow people around in real life throwing them buffs for no reason, I totally would.

It's not really a fandom I have, just a sort of recognition of the best PvE guilds and PvP teams. Most players who also enjoy the community of WoW kind of pick this sort of knowledge up along the way..Stevedave00 said:
As for why I know the name, Ensidia are well known as the top PvE guild due to a merging of the 2 top competitors. They also recently had their guild name all over the WoW site after they recently cleared some content which hasn't been achieved yet.
Also I like that you commented I'd never be part of those guilds, I don't know how you could ever actually assume that about somebody.
