Only when I'm solving a puzzle which I have to verbalize to figure out.

"The killer was probably a Caucasian male, judging by the size of his footprints and a single lock of hair I found at the scene. This makes the suspect most likely Jenkins, but I recall earlier being told that young mister Jenkins was a pacifist vegetarian with hemophilia; not killer material. It was obviously Mrs Bitchface!"

"Gasp!"

Depends by what you mean by talking to yourself. If you mean when you're talking to someone and you realize that they're not there (kinda like thinking aloud), then yes I do that. Or do you mean when you have a proper conversation with yourself?

well, I talk to myself and I answer myself after some period of reflection. I mean if I ask myself a question I have to answer it right? Anyway, everybody around me thinks I am crazy. Actually its mostly at work narrating my actions. One colleague once said she read in an article, wish I could find it on the internet, that talking to yourself while performing tasks reduces the chance of mistakes. Apparently she said, thinking is a more fluid process and you can easily be carried away. While talking involve much more brain resources and is a much more focused task, therefore less likely that you will loose your stream of thought. I personally think of that like when someone is counting something loud and when you try to interrupt rises further his voice continuing to count like meaning, fuck off, you are distracting me.

Yeah, but not in a crazy way in which I respond to myself.

I'll just start randomly talking. Like I'll start ranting about random shit. Not to anyone, just begin talking.

I find it comforting
Exactly what I do. I don't have a conversation, but I often explain how something works in an easy to understand way. Maybe that's why People think I'm a good teacher, because I've practiced teaching things (just not teaching them to anyone)

Talking to yourself is just like talking to an object: It's only crazy if you expect you to respond.

What if you don't expect a response, but get on anyway?

All the time, I find it helps me focus on whatever it is I'm analyzing.

No, I talk to people who aren't there. It's like I'm constantly practicing for conversations that I won't have.

I usually do this while thinking, telling myself my reasoning makes it easier to spot flaws.
