In almost all games there is a Male/Female Love intrest. Sometimes the lead is a girl or sometimes its a guy but never gay. I'm not gay, but I was thinking about it. Homosexuality is very controversial and Do you think the world is ready for a homosexual lead role? And it doesn't mean that there would be a gratuidous sex scene or revolve around their homosexuality just enough to show that they are gay. And not just lesbians...becuase we all know guys would enjoy a game that revolved around lesbians I mean either sex. xD

I believe that it can, but... Due to many people being homophobes or just seeing it all downright disgusting, it would have to have one epic story to go along with it (just like other games) but it would have to try harder.
A game starring a gay male character, I doubt (especially if there was a romantic subplot), but a game with a lesbian protagonist would be successful, for the same reason that Bioware advertised the mass effect sex scene.
I'd love to think that a game with a gay character as a lead would do well, but the simple truth is that there are too many people out there that just aren't ready for it. Which is kinda sad, really, because there's no good reason why there couldn't be a good gay character.

Fear Effect had two gay women as the leads. For most games it wouldn't matter because it would never come up. Is Samus straight? She never has contact with other people in games so it never comes up. Almost all romance in games is ham handed and badly carried out so it doesn't really matter if they are gay or not, it usually doesn't come into play.

take a look at games like Two Worlds, it doesnt say if he's gay or straight hes just looking to find his sister; ifin Dead Space the protagonist had been after his gay lover it wouldnt have mattered.
to really think about sexuality in games so much means you really haven't been out in the world enough; it doesnt matter about anyones sexuality unless they are trying to press it on to you; its a free world for everyone to be what they want.
