The title is self-explanetory.

I believe that games are art.

Art can take any form.

Anything you do or create merely for the purpose of enjoyment or something that is meant only for an emotional response is art.

So yes.

yes. but there more a form of media.
games like Okami can be considered art. and games let you unlock concept art(for some obscure reason). So if arts involved and is a major part in the games industry of course its art. the same way disney films are considered art i guess

They can tell heartwrenching stories, show blood-pumping action scenes and connect you to the characters in ways movies and books only wish.

Yeah. They're art.

I know but 3 truths:

1. Brutal Legend is awesome.
2. My name is Austin.
3. Video Games ARE art.

Edit: One more.

5. It's funnier when you bleep it out.

I agree with all of those, but I do not agree with 2.

Video games include storytelling, and animation ever time, and more. Both are art forms alone so... of course they're art.

I believe that there is A LOT of art in games, but as a total package, it's hard for an entire game to be considered 'art'. Games like World of Goo is totally art, along with perhaps Crayon Physics. But art is such a subjective thing that I don't think there'll every be a universal consensus on it. I mean shit, don't think most modern art is.

Absolutely yes, but as someone pointed out, many games aren't even close to beeing art - just as most movies aren't either. And books. And songs...

Dadaism sortof mad ethe word "art" useless, as they made the arty part of the art world think that anything from classic paintings, a an upside-down toilet is art. The word art is undefinable, cause no matter what you present, someone will be willing to call it art.

"no officer, i didn't force myself upon that young lady, wait nine months and you'll see that i was making art"

There is art in games, but there's a fine line between stupid and art, and I've played games that fail to see this line. The first example that comes to mind is a game called "The Graveyard" All you do is walk to the end of the graveyard, listen to a song, then walk out. It was called "proof that a game can be art" But I found it to be a waste of time.

I wouldn't call that a game, thus, I wouldn't call it art.

I call it a game that tried too hard to be art, but forgot about being a game.

because game can effect you emotionally through their interactivity they are art

it would be clear that games are an art form but there is just no demand for that sort of thing so there are very few genuinely thoughtful games in existence

Just because something can never objectively be art does not mean you can't define art. Art is the exploration of emotions. This is subjective to be sure but it is very the definition of art itself is not a problem.

Also, you can't say that dadaism proves art is undefinable because dadaism was an expression of helplessness and existentialism that was very emotional.
