I've always thought that St. Patrick's Day should be an official holiday because of how many people celebrate it in the U.S. I live in Philadelphia so I've been around when the St. Patrick's Day parade is out and I love it. So I've always thought it deserves it's own holiday and even if you're not Irish, we always tell people everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day. So let me know what you guys think.

If for no other reason than because so many people need something they can call National Beer Day...

Not unless you also celebrate St David's day in the same manner.

No, I believe that here in the US, we should only have five official holidays: Memorial and Labor Day, New Years Day, Presidents Day and the Fourth of July. Any other holiday should not recieve national recognition.

Well, we have Herb day as a holiday. So, St. Patrick's can be one too. In another country.

Er, I'm only aware it exists because its both the day of the local fair and booze is cheaper than normal (also a very nice combination I must say!). So no, not really.

Unless its high in the national consciousness, like the Queen mums bday (which is absolutely stonking an austraia) no.

I'm going to say yes. Only because I think we need more holidays. I'm not Irish and I don't celebrate it, but I'd welcome another day off that means little to me.

*sigh* as much as I love drinking, playing up my Irish Heritage and drinking. Making St. Paddy's day a holiday strikes me as a little irresponsible. It's bad enough as is.

That said, I would kill for a Stat Holiday in March that isn't the elusive and roaming Easter.

I'm Irish, it's a national holiday here. Honestly most people don't care about St. Patricks day anymore. It was more of a holiday that you enjoyed when you were younger (the parade throughout Dublin city centre). Now it's just a day where everyones off school, no big deal if you don't have plans because it doesn't really matter.

So, I voted no because even in the country where it originated from, it has just become another annoying holiday that you couldn't care less about.
