On the one hand, I can see where boobies would become too commonplace if everyone showed them off. On the other hand, just like the green grass and the blue skies, I like looking at things I like looking at, and I do like me some boobies.

Its the woman's choice.

If she wishes to be topless, more power to her cause I sure as hell ain't gonna go around with my trousers off that's for fucking certain.

People got used to seeing women's limbs in public in the 20th century (in America, anyway) without everyone stopping to have public orgies so I'd think that ,were women in North America to get their topfreedom, the world would go on without missing a beat...except for the guys and gals in the topless magazine industry and hack artists who have nothing to offer but cleavage shots in their work.

They will just have to go get some other job skills.

Personally: I would prefer that they keep covered up. I've been conditioned by society to view bare breasts as taboo/sexual objects, and it would be extremely uncomfortable for me to see a woman walking around without a shirt during everyday business.

Objectively: Women should be allowed to go topless if they choose. The only thing standing in the way of this is public decency laws and social mores. Also, if men start seeing breasts all over the place, they probably will cease to be a sexual turn-on for many people.

Either way, I doubt that too many girls would be comfortable with walking around without a shirt. And maybe men should just keep their shirts on too.

I believe in giving peoples as much liberty as possible, but I find this bizzare. I don't think there is a cultural demand for that in the US. Personally, I think it would be just nasty.

Um, because the reason men would want women topless in public is because they like to oggle the female body. They don't actually give a shit about being "equal". It's about them getting a free show. Duh.

Also, I have no desire to see another woman's breasts.
1.The men most interested in ogling are some of the most fervent opponents of topfreedom. As some other people have stated, it would cease to be abything special if they were seen as being the same as men's chests.
It also keeps other men from seeing 'their' breasts which happen to be attatched to some woman. Look at the fellows over there in the Middle East. They make their women cover up completely and, in the process, made themselves so hyper-sensitive to female skin that they can't keep their hands off of women if the barest hint of their figure is percieved through the veils.

2.I'm pretty sure that a lot of men out there don't want to look at other men's chests, either. There are also people who don't want to look at two men hold hands or see people whose skin color is different from theirs.
Other's people's discomfort isn't a valid reason to discriminate against anyone.

I couldn't decide between "Only when appropriate" and "All the time".
I chose the later, only because I figured that men are allowed to walk around without shirts on legally, even if they get strange looks for doing it in an odd place.

I think such a policy should be restricted to attractive women with nice looking boobs.

Oh come on, you were all thinking it

Of course, if you want a serious answer, women are not allowed to go topless because their boobs are sexual objects, mens chests are not. There was a case about a guy with moobs a few years ago that ruled female boobs are sexual objects and must be covered up wheres mens chests are not sexual objects. Simples
So why do we cover up sexual areas?
They are a part of us that is needed for survival like eyes, noses ,mouths so why do we cover up sexual areas?
Is it because we beleive men don't have self control?

Not in public, i think. Same goes for manly men dripping with testosterone, actually. And you know why? Because it's distractive. If everyone will be staring at everyone else, we won't really get anywhere.

I don't have a problem with it... but the sexualization of boobs has gotten to such a level that I think it should be legal for a woman to do that, be it at a beach or anywhere etc... it can be legal but doesn't mean its a good idea each time

I've always been confused as to why it is socially acceptable for a man to be barechested in public, magazines, and commercials, while women are forced to wear a top. I believe that we shouldn't discriminate against a person simply because of a physical difference.

I'm not talking about having every woman stand in line at the store with their breasts exposed. I'm talking about women being topless at beaches, pools, or parks. Situations where men are commonly accepted to take their shirts off.

What's your opinion on the matter?

P.S. I'm quite aware that there are topless beaches.

None of this is including public Breastfeeding.
I don't know why our current society has the idea that the human body should be censored, it's a beautiful thing (in a strictly heterosexual way). You can watch the Discovery channel at just about any time of the day and watch other animals "get it on". What makes humans so different? We dilute ourselves by trying to think our technology makes us more advanced than other species of animals, but we're not. I think that clothes should only be worn to protect our bodies from the weather.

The real question here is whether covering the female breast is the sole reason it has become a sexual object. If that is the case, then yes, we should toss everything out the window. How else are we supposed to move past superficial matters when we keep on objecting ourselves to the same shallow views? However, there is the matter of comfort, and a law determining this type of personal liberty will not be able to help everyone. Even if it is passed, there will be many that object to it, and even if it isn't passed many will object to it.

So, if this were to happen, we may eventually reach a point where we care more about the mental capacities of someone rather than their looking pretty next to a window. However, that is wishful thinking indeed, and, dare I say it, completely out of the way concerning mainstream media in its current state.

(Wow, my first post on escapist magazine was for a breast related topic. Well, could of been worse.)
