I guess it'll sell "ok" but below MS' expectations,I think a lot of people forget that 360 sold as much because they had a year headstart coupled with a cheaper price (let's not forget the RROD problem which gave a boost to sales as well years later).
They still couldn't conquer Asia and Europe. With all the countries they're actively ignoring at launch of Xbone (I'm fairly sure the list will grow the closer we get to November though),it doesn't bode well for MS.

I have no idea about the american gameshops and the customers' habits but if Gamestop (or any similar shops) is as big as it seems,I can't imagine the employees actively promoting Xbone to indecisive customers at all,on the contrary they'll try to sell as many PS4 as they can to secure the used game market and their income with it.

I assume the PS4 and Xbox will launch at roughly the same time, the average consumer will see 2 similar consoles with 100$ difference, which one are they gonna choose?

I wish it would bomb badly though for forcing these policies on people,my advice to people who are on the fence still is to delay their purchase at the very least so that MS might see reason and changes its policies later on.

For every angry forum goer there are a thousand people who just care about having a box that plays games.

I honestly think it will sell decently well. I highly doubt it will outsell the PS4, or even be a meaningful competitor, but I think it will sell fairly well. I really, really hope it falls flat on its face and utterly destroys Microsoft's game division, but that's just a fantasy. There's enough people enamored with the Xbox brand that it will sell no matter what they do to it.

There will likely be huge numbers of early-adopters (pre-orders, day-1 purchasers, etc, etc), but I fully expect for a significant chunk of those to immediately return the console as they realize they can't use it for whatever reason. There will be a string of bad press that drastically hurts their numbers for a couple months. Where it goes from there depends entirely on the service they provide and how happy most people who have one are with it. If they like the benefits Microsoft keeps promising, the sales will pick back up. If not, the console will crash.

I don't think that most people who buy a console really pay attention to different specs and what not like PC gamers do with their PCs or us that follow the announcements as they happen. The battle between Sony and Microsoft will come down to exclusives and Halo looks to be the thing that will win it for Microsoft purely because of brand recognition, though Infamous and Killzone are pretty strong contenders in their own right.

That said, I think price is going to play a great part. Microsoft deserves to be ridiculed time and time again for packing the kinect with the Xbox One and making it always on. It's made it $100 more expensive and made a mockery of the idea of an all-in-one console because the kinect is nothing but a peripheral. Always online has ticked many people off though and I think that people who do care about it will buy PS4s regardless of what else Microsoft offers. It's the most important issue to them and I hope Microsoft suffers for its mistake. Like with the Xbox 360 Slim, I reckon that they'll bring out another Xbone later down the line without DRM if they really see the repercussions.

the requirements of the console mean that a sizable portion of the potential sales will not have any reason to buy it (referring to the every 24hr connection), this will lead to lower sales numbers, and when you add in the limited locations its being launched in...

it almost seems like they're using the xbone to test the waters to see if they can make a profit without those peasants out in the sticks that can't/refuse to get a stable broadband internet connection

edit: it's xbox live that is limited region on launch, which is a puzzle for another thread

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's being launched everywhere. The list of 21 countries floating around the web at the moment are regions where xbox LIVE will be supported, not where the system itself is limited to being sold.

Most of those who ordered it are in for a very unpleasant surprise. I can't wait to see all those people selling back their Xbones once they realize they can't use them unless they're millionaires.

Wat.They'll be sued outta the ass then? You can't sell a console that won't play games.

I personally feel that despite all the crap behind it, the Xbone will still sell well and possibly still win this generation. Frankly there are too many people out there with blinkers on and will follow through with blind brand loyalty, despite getting nothing in return for that loyalty.

Welcome to Capitalism, where the ignorant masses dictate what is and isn't acceptable.

Just because LIVE isn't supported doesn't mean that it can't connect to the internet. You don't need LIVE membership for the console to function, only access to the internet. I'm pretty sure you'd need a connection to get LIVE to begin with anyway.

...But that's irrelevant now, because that image clearly states that the console will in fact NOT be sold outside the 21 regions, which debunks my claim above regardless. Depending on how reliable Twitter support is anyhow.

xbox will sell fine. though it isnt reflected in this site, there are plenty of people, myself included, who are fine with buying new games and have no internet issues. the only reason im probably getting a ps4 instead of an xbox is 1. the ps4 is cheaper and i dont really have an interest in any exclusives for either console, and 2. xbox controllers have always felt too big and clunky to me. playstation controllers have always been much much more comfortable

I don?t know if the gamers who are angry at Microsoft are actually going to vote with their wallets.

I also don?t know how many non core gamers will react to the Xbox ones policy on used games, and having to log in every 24 hours.

I do think there not going to win this console generation, they might beat Nintendo, but they have simply alienated too many people to become the number 1 console this generation.

sorry for my poor english.
Yes, they will succeed. Enough people will buy the console that Microsoft will make some profit, Everyone hated the PS3 at launch and it did great.... Microsoft? eh, they'll get third place this year.

It will probably sell ok when it launches. Then tons of backlash will come at MS because parents had no idea their kids new system required an internet connection to work and that some creepy robo eye was always watching their children.

It might win America, but I'm sure it'll lose overall. Seeing how the PS4 is launching in every country there is no way Microsoft can beat those sale with only 21 countries.

It's still gonna sell.

Why?

Because it's advertised as a Call of Duty and Battlefield machine. That alone will make it sell like hotcakes with the casual market. And most people only play those games for the multiplayer, so they won't be affected by the always online issue.

It makes me sad. I really want the console to fail HARD, but Microsoft knows how to market to the frat-boy crowd, with the Doritos and Mtn. Dew and all.

It hurts me to think that the ignorant masses of CoD players are considered the majority of "gamers" these days. :/

It will sell well, whether that's a good thing or not depends on how you view the console. As everyone is pointing out, there are thousands upon thousands of gamers who have already pre-ordered the console, and lots of casual consumers will buy it.

If you were to mention all the problems many of the forum posters on this site have with the Xbox One to the average consumer, they won't even know what DRM is or care about used games, or always on-line requirements, and Kinect always watching, the Xbox brand is big enough where it would be hard to flat out fail.

even with all the "hate" going on right now, the system will still do well. They have good exclusives and the CoD crowd is strong on Xbox, so that will be a big hit for them (again).
