wasn't there a game similar to GTA III on PS2 that was in London streets?
I think it was called The Getaway? Played a demo once, I think its what you mean. Anyway, I'm leaning more toward a Las Vegas-style thing, or maybe an extremely retro GTA set during The Great Depression in Chicago or something... plenty of organized crime in those days, remember Prohibition?
Have you ever played Mafia? That was basically a GTA clone set at the time of Prohibition. Definitely worth a look if you're interested. IT's quite old now though ~2004.

I think i'd go with the London idea but where GTA usually has a number of islands or something to segment the game, perhaps make London one of a few places the game explores, including other places around England.

Otherwise maybe a GTA:UK, though would have to shrink the scale down a bit as it would be too huge of a game to be completely sandbox. Maybe have bridges to each island setup connecting London to Edinburgh, Cardiff & Belfast.
London has 2, Liberty city in GTA IV has what 3, and thats a styalised version of NY.

The easiest way to styalise London, would be to have a version where theres a wall with a river sized moat round the City of London (A square mile, in real life, could be scaled up abit), as one area, and the north and south of the river as the other two.

Hell start the game with a saints row 2 style breakout from the tower of london.

I'd vote no.

London just isn't the right place for something like GTA - its too drab and low-rise and unless rendered into something completely unrecognisable would feel too much like home for, I would imagine, a lot of English/British people to provide a real sense of adventure (it certainly would for me). The settings for GTA need a bizarre, slightly crazy edge; San Andreas (San Fierro, Los Santos, Las Venturas), Vice City and Liberty City are all great locations because they have a touch of the mental about them:

Vice City was the 80's condensed into a game.
San Andreas, each of the cities has a unique feel and each comes with its own slightly crazy aspects - not to mention the amazing wilderness parts in between.
Liberty City, no other city on the planet has the feel atmosphere of New York from its awesome skyline to the mafia and gang-ridden 'burbs.

London just lacks that element of craziness. It worked with GTA:London because it was a top down game, but with something as immersive as GTA5 will hopefully be, London just seems a somewhat lacklustre setting not to mention that its already been done in The Getaway.

I'd like to see the next GTA set in the fabled-but-yet-to-be-seen(afaik) "Carcer City" or perhaps somewhere simillar to San Andreas, at least in terms of the scale and variation of locations.

In short: I don't want to play a Guy Ritchie movie.

I assume you mean a new GTA, and I say yes. Much rather have it set in a fictionalised Birmingham though.

There's a sequel coming out soon though.

No, Never. The gun laws are far too strict, the roads are always congested and there is very little deviation in the weather (rain or more rain)

I say this coming from England myself, and even though I know if rockstar set a GTA in England it would be awesome, It just doesn't sound good on paper/internet

They did. Back in the day.

I'd love to see one in...Australia, actually. Maybe...Melbourne.
That'd be awesome!

And I also want a GTA: Norway, preferrably in Bergen, since it's Norway's second biggest city.
[SUB]Why not set it in the biggest city in Norway? Because Oslo is super-shitty.[/SUB]

Lets see;

1. Less than a 3rd of Liberty City is anymore high rise than London.

2. London has modern glass fronted buildings yards from castles (and yes that is meant to be a plural), and one of the widest range of archetectural styles anywhere.

3. At least 2 of the aformentioned castles still have military guards.

4. Wide open Parks, farms, airports, prisons and military bases all within the city.

5. Simialry to NY (the basis for liberty city) has one of the most ethnically diverse populations in the world, an iconic taxi, a well none underground mass transit system, Iconic busses.

6. Once you get past about 15 Stories (which london has pleanty of) mostly what high rise buildings offer to a game is something to make helicopter chases more interesting.

In otherwords apart from taller buildings, and a more regimented street system, New York is suprisingly similar to London. Most of what makes NY a great place to base game city on, (diversity of people, buildings and areas, iconic landmarks, a slight crazy edge) are all present in London.

Only if it includes an exact representation of the area I live in, with all the people I know. Thanks R*, I know I can count on you.

Just meant in the traditional GTA style. As travelling normally between them all would be one hell of a boring journey

They did, it was awesome and i hope following the trend of this generations releases being set in updated locations of the originals that its either going to be the next setting or one close down the line or even a DLC package would be neat.
