Two series that have noticebly gotten easier:

The Zelda series (Zelda 1, 2 & 3 are VERY hard in comparison to the 3d games)
Mario Series (Each game got progressively easier, with the original still being a pain to beat)

Oh, I wasn't dissing achievements or trophies. I think that they are (or at least can be) just fine. They're not worse, just different.
