my friend and I have a argument going whether cheating is good in video games I say video games are fun and so if your not having fun cheating is fine. he says that games are a challenge and so cheating should not be used even if the game is annoying you.

so iv decided to make a poll asking if you cheat at games and if you say yes please tell me at what point you start and if you stop once your over a section or not.

I used to cheat alot when I was a child, usually because of my efforts resulting in failure. These days I don't cheat, unless the game is especially difficult with no easier alternative. Yesterday I had to use a cheat for gold on Warcraft 2, because I needed to build two structure in a specific place to win, too bad there was no gold mines left.

Any chance of an option on the poll, that seperates people who cheat sparingly and people who frequently cheat?

Sometime yes. Sometimes i just want to screw around with the game, and cheating is good for that.

I'll use them once I've completed the game without them. As for my Mega Drive/NES days, they were used all the time, shameful

I prefer to have atleast one play through for each game before even thinking about cheating, that way it makes it more interesting to see how insane some things can get (i.e. one-hit kills on bosses etc)

Only at Starcraft. I'm fucking terrible at straight-up playing it like you're suppose to. Which is odd, because I completely destroyed the Warcraft series.

Don't worry Starcraft, I still love you!

Not really. If I cheat it becomes too easy and I lose enjoyment in the game a lot faster.

Only with sandbox games, and mostly after i've completed them.
San Andreas is so much more fun with cheats.

Strangely enough, I finished Starcraft and it's expansion last week, now I'm struggling with Warcraft 2 and had to cheat through Warcraft 1. :p

I like games to challenge my skill level, if I can't complete a section of a game I'll come back to it later rather than cheating. I personally hate even using walkthrough for games, but if I am really stuck I will use one, just like cheats really. If I just want fun out of a game I'll cheat some of the time, but I know if I've resorted to cheating to find fun in a game then I probably need a new game.

Ditto.

Generally the only time I'll cheat on a game otherwise is if I really can't see a way forward. This only happens on RPG's, and even then not since I was small, because I never leveled my character properly and everything nearby is trying to kill me. I'll turn them back off once I get on my feet again too.

I also do somethings which blur the line between cheating and not cheating, like using a talent point redistribution mod for Torchlight.

Single Player? Generally, I don't. I did when I was a kid playing doom 2 and wanted to live for more than 30 seconds (yes, I sucked). I have used character hacks in Diablo 2 and NWN when trying to get old characters I lost back or to test out high level skills to see which path I would take.

If you want to use cheats in single player then thats fine, the only person your cheating is yourself so if that doesn't bother you, then go for it.

Multiplayer on the other hand... NEVER! Anybody who does is missing the point and taking fun away from others. No respect at all for those that cheat in multiplayer games.
