Poll: Do you use GameFaqs while you play?...

I thought of this the other day (like monts ago) because I saw my brother playing Dead Space for the first time and was looking at a spoiler-tastic guide that actually told him where the nasties were going to pop up from. Which I think is rather detrimental to the whole Ooogey boogey boogey feel of the game.

So, what do you escapist prefer? Do you like reading a guide while playing? Reading a whole wall of text should not be part of the gaming experience? Or do you fire it up just for the second run?

I'll use it but only when I get close to Rage-Quitting on something I'm stuck on... Like ridiculously hard puzzles. Prefer to do it without the walkthrough first though.

For things like hidden packages/pigeons in GTA.
On Oblivion (UESP is a really useful wiki) when i want to find out of theres an easier way of beating certain levels/ any secrets im missing out on. But usually after I've done the mission.
I actually watched a few different Heavy rain walkthroughs recently to see all the different endings and stuff, but thats just because i don't have a ps3 and wanted to see the rest of the storyline. I only got up to the second trial round my mates before it crashed.

I never used to look at them at first playthru. I would always use a strategy guide on the second playthru, but as I've gotten older I've noticed I don't really play thru games more than once. So, yes I will sometimes use a strategy guide but only for games that I know have a ton of hidden stuff in them. Final Fantasy games are notorious for this altho the last 2 I haven't consulted one cause I really just wanted to beat it not go thru all the extra crap.

Actually no that's a lie, I looked one up to figure out the fastest way to max out weapons with the upgrade system, saw how much it would take then said f- it and just upgraded it with whatever I had. Does that count?

Edit: If I were to play Fallout 3 I would probably look one up occasionally.

I have to be truly stuck - and even afterwords, I feel pretty bad about using it. And if I do use it , I don't like telling anyone about it. I feel like I cheated, and I'll be forever judged by it. Especially if the person I am telling thought the part I was stuck on, was the easiest part of the game. lol.

Also, if the game is massive and I want to see if I missed some awesome stuff (crammed in a dungeon somewhere) I missed after my first play-through (for the story), then I will.

Only if I get really stuck on something, otherwise it just ruins the fun.
Except for pokemon, I always look up new pokemon on Serebii so I can see its weaknesses.

Yeah, I mostly use it if I get stuck on something. I've used it in the past to learn more about spells in Baldur's Gate 2, since I didn't play D&D back then, and occasionally I'll use it to make sure I didn't miss anything.

I use them for God of War because the only part of those games I enjoy are the boss fights and scenery. The puzzles can just be downright tedious and the platforming in those games is my sworn enemy whom I must kill.

That's really it though. Just for a game that I actually don't enjoy the majority of.

The only time I really check it is for games like Oblivion, if I've been searching for an item for far too long or something like that. Or if I'm about to quit cause a puzzle is taking forever. I don't really use it that much though

Like others here, I only use it when I'm truly struggling with a certain part.

For things like hidden packages/pigeons in GTA.

I thought I would find the pigeons by myself. HA! The game world is so damn large, it was damn near impossible. I found like 10 alone. Under those kind of circumstances, I think it is appropriate to use a guide. Thanks to GameFaqs, I now have the achievement.

It usually depend on how complex the game is like if it require alot of strategy like eg RPG games.

Unless I get completely and utterly stuck I prefer to do my first run completely blind. No guides, no hints, no mods, no external information whatsoever.
