I've assembled a group of students who are lobbying the school board to give saying internet abbreviations more than once per day a penalty of execution.

There are already around 5 things that warrant an execution, so the rule will probably become active next month.

I don't use them in any case besides to annoy/teeze someone, still very rarely.

I say LOL.
But lol is a normal word in Dutch that means fun. I'm Dutch. So it's sort of a joke.

Anyway, I don't mean laugh out loud when I say lol... because I would just laugh out loud in that case. Instead of abbreviate it.

(ps: Anyone else here who hates it when people abbreviate 'I love you' or 'I miss you' or things like that? It annoys me.. One could at least take the effort to type those things full out if they feel so strongly about it. A bit of effort? )

Online, I only use abbreviations during 'instant messaging', to save time.

On the forums, articles I write or in real life, I never use them.

unless it's to make fun of the whole principle of abbreviations...

If I ever do, its basically in a way that's usually off the mark from what it is, such as "Hey guys, I'm going to be Arbys in a few minutes or so." It confuses the crap out of them.

I absolutely hate it when people use internet abbreviations out loud. People think they are so cool when they say it, and they know so "in the know", and know so much about computers and the internet, when they really only go on Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter for hours and hours.

It so fucking agitating.

Only one thing is worse, and that is when adults who try to be "with the kids" (which is to be avoided at all costs) use it internet abbreviations.

I say GTFO, but that's about it. And even that is usually said sarcastically. Helps people get out of the car faster.

Any other time I use them, it is usually when I am mocking someone. Or just being plain stupid on purpose.

I think so long as no one's "serious" about it, it can be funny.

Every now and then when I'm messing around. Never on accident though, it's always for an effect.

I say "bee arr bee" and "bee tee dub" from time to time. But I laugh instead of saying "lol."

I voted Seldom.

I used to actually say out 'Lol' a lot a couple of years back. Right now I use "tbh" in real-life, but that's pretty much it. And usually alone around people who know what it means as well. I basically use it for the same reason that I use the word "though" in my sentences when speaking my own language - because Dutch simply lacks words/phrases with the same meaning that roll of your tongue in such a nice way.
