I don't use the inverted y-axis but I know one of my friends who does. I was hanging out at his place and had to change it when we were playing.

I use it always cause my first FPS I played it was on inverted by default, I had no idea how to change it back then and I just kinda went with it and never looked back. I don't see a reason to change it either unless not including the option to invert becomes the norm.

I was actually kinda scared when I got AC2 for PC cause you can only change y-axis in the ingame menu, and not in the main menu.

I have noticed that in most first person shooters, there is an option for inverted y-axis controls (up is down and down is up) and I always wondered who would ever use this.
So, lets see...
always. but i am also a pilot so it would be unnatural for me at this point to move something up (or forward as it were) to go up.

that just doesn't make sense!!

Nope, never. I just can't seem to control it. Like riding a bicycle with your arms crossed on the handlebars...

Always invert for 1st and 3rd person games. For whatever reason it just feels more natural.

I do, thanks to MechWarrior. Played that game alot when it first came out. Ever since, I really can't play a game with it not inverted.

why use it? you don't move your head up to look down. o_O
No, but you tilt your head forward to look down, and tilt it backwards to look up.

I view the vertical axis of the analogue sticks as forwards/backwards, not up/down., which makes sense when you think of the left analogue stick, you tilt it forward to make your character move forward, and you tilt it backwards to make them move backwards.

In FPS games, I use inverted because I tilt the analogue stick forwards to look down and tilt it backwards to look up.

I have found that many older gamers (like myself) always invert. It may be because back in the day before FPS's were all the rage, we played games like X-wing and Tie-Fighter that used actual joysticks, so our muscle memory/hand eye cordination is tuned to up=down and down=up, like flight controls, when the traditional controller came out, it is just a mini-joystick, so flight controls for me and the other old foggies.
You said it right! As a side note, how old are 'older gamers' considered to be? I'm 29 and started in 1987. Where does that put me on the gaming veteran scale?

I would say you are tenured after about 15 years of gaming. I started in 1982, so I guess that would make me a Grand Poobah of gaming.

It's the difference between controlling the eyes or the head.
Inverted controls the head. This is what I use.

Invert for life!

I've skipped games that didn't allow me to change that, because for some reason I fail at up = up miserably.
I remember not playing games which didn't allow me to use Goldeneye (left stick move/turn, right stick look/strafe). Unfortunately, this has long since passed as the norm and I had to change. I'm still so much better in Goldeneye movement. It just seems more natural. It must be such as easy programing fix to include it - lazy programmers..
