Well, to me system link just doesn't seem very practical. Unless you're setting up a big event and actually have the space to put up several consoles, TVs and copies of the game, split screen seems a better alternative for playing with your friends. After all, everyone would have to bring their own console, game and TV, then you'd have to find a way to set it all up. And how often do you ivite more than 4 people to play at the same time?

So, have you ever used system link? In what circumstances? And, most importantly, do you like it?

Back in the old days of gaming yes it was a very popular thing to do. However with the invention of the internet that's a thing in the past.

never heard of what you're talking about, I assume it uses LAN
It's basically LAN for the Xbox and Xbox 360. You can connect two or more consoles (don't ask me how). And some games let you use both system link and split screen to accomodate up to 16 players.

I system link all the time. I don't think it's a thing of the past at all.

Especially since most games have taken out the split screen.

If I want to sit around with a bunch of friends and game its the only way we can anymore.

Games seem to be moving away from the social aspect of gaming. Which is really really sad.

I use system-link as often as I've remembered that I can do it! The thought came to me when it came down to the fact that only 4 people could play at a time and most times there would be around 16 (max) of us all wanting to have a go. Even though we can only play Halo 3 in system-link (since it's the only common game that we all own) everyone has thought that it's great!

Not really, they're just making you go online and pay for it. *sigh* I miss split screen too.

I remember when some early playstation games could only do multiplayer through system link. Times were tough back then.

System link is good stuff. I use it a lot, especially for the MechAssault games.

I have once, when eight of us went round to a friend's birthday thing. It was easily the most fun I've ever had on Halo, and a pretty good contender for most fun I've ever had with gaming.
That's the only one time I've ever used it in the history of forever, though.

One last thing; if you intend to use system link, get big TVs. The guys on the little one just get grouchy.

Well seeing as in this day and age everyone has like 12 TV's in their house anyway that was never an issue (if you need more you can bring a monitor anyway). How do you connect more than 2? Can do it through a multiport router or if you need more simply an external hub. I like system link, all the best things about online gaming, but without the lag and 14 year olds screaming. While at the same time you can be close enough to someone to hit them when they bullshit you.

I've never used it before, although I could see potentially doing it.

You use ethernet cables on the Xbox's. Instead of plugging into router just plug other end into another xbox.

I used to do it every friday for like all of Highschool. Then I moved, and now I only play online.

Was pretty epic on Halo back in the day.

I knew about that, I just didn't know how to plug more than two consoles together, since each one only has one Ethernet port.

Me and my friend used system link today and yesterday, we were playing gears of war 2 and it made everything way better being able to see your character and stats not bunched up in the corner. So yes i like system link.

Well, that takes care of my first question. To everyone who uses system link: how easy is it to set up all of the consoles and TVs?

I use it all the time with friends. I'd use it a lot more if more games supported it. It's awesome.
