Poll: Do you want to be the opposite sex?

So I've recently read a thread on the escapist which was titled as "How would you feel if you woke up one day as the opposite sex?" The majority of the posters said that they would look forward to being the opposite sex, which I found very interesting. To me that might mean that transsexuals make up a larger portion of the escapist and the human community at large than previously thought. I mean in my criteria the only thing which qualifies a person as transgender is the feeling that they would be happier as the opposite sex, that their identity doesn't match the body or role society has given them. But on the other hand, most of the posters were primarily interested in experiencing sex in the body of the opposite gender. And most transsexuals want to undergo surgery for different reasons.

Anyway my question to you is this, do you really want to be the opposite gender? Let's say that this is in a parallel universe where the transition would be free, painless, and you would face no social repercussions for doing this. Would you only do it if you looked like a very attractive member of the opposite sex? Or would you only experiment with it and inhabit a different body for a day or two to see what's it's like? So I appreciate any and all replies. I hope you learn as much from this as I hope to.

I don't think boobs would be as fun if they were mine, so not really.
Plus I don't really want to commit to long term treatment and operations to change my sex.

If I was magicked into womanhood for a day or two, that'd be interesting. But as a permanent fixture... nah.

The "For a Day or two" option could solve so many gender double standards overnight.

I did recently have a conversation with my girlfriend, in which we both expressed a desire to swap bodies for a while so we could see what playing with the other's bits would feel like from a first person perspective.

The thing is, over the years, I've observed that females seem to have much better orgasms than men do, and much more of them as well. Hell, if properly primed and stimulated, they can have them over and over with increasing intensity in a relatively short space of time. I'm somewhat concerned that if I did swap bodies with my girl, I'd soon find out that male orgasms are actually complete crap compared to females and I could never enjoy sex again as a man as a consequence of the exchange....

So although I'd love to grab a big ole' sex toy and go to town... I fear it would be, for lack of a better word; disasterous.

My first instinct is "no". Women have to worry about menopause, periods, and giving birth. Men have to worry about exactly none of that.

No. Not much to think about here.

On second thought, I wouldn't mind having a pair of knockers to play with for half a day or so. However, I have no emotional need or anything like that to become female. Personally, I think It'd be a very very bad idea in the long term to do so.

No, I really don't.

I like who I am. I don't want to be someone else, not even for a day or two.

I don't even want to explore the female 'bits' on my own, I want to do that with someone else and explore her 'bits' together.

I'd like to keep feeling some awe and emotion over the female body. And when it becomes my own, even if only for a day or two, I think it'll become way too mechanical.

If I want mechanical I'll masturbate, with a girl I want something more. Even if that includes some stumbling and awkwardness, actually make that especially with some stumbling and awkwardness. I think a small amount of awkwardness is integral to the experience and only adds to the charm, a small amount of uncertainty and then, hopefully, delight as you find out she wants it too.

It would be quite interesting. I have spent alot of time training my muscles, improving my dexterity and getting to know my body (martial arts), so getting a new one that works abit different would be interesting, like switching cars.

It would also be interesting to see how a woman is met in comparison to a man. So change is fun!.
I believe that "I" would be the same but the world would meet me differently. Minfullnes elimanates gender barriers.

hehe... Yeah, I couldn't pass this poll by. Yes, I am transgender. I am actively working on changing my sex to fit my gender. And yes, this is for the rest of my life. :)

...Not really?
I mean, being a guy would just be me, but with a penis. And there's nothing I'm interested in doing with such a thing. If I worked at it, I could probably do most anything a man could do if I wanted.
Really, though, I rather be pretty than handsome.

I know there are people who would rather be the opposite sex, but I have no personal feelings of the sort that would allow me to have the vaguest understanding of what it would feel like to be in that position. I guess I'm lucky to feel this comfortable with sex...

I'd say yes I would, if I could be a good looking guy. I'm pretty much a tomboy, plus I'm bisexual so it wouldn't really be much of a change for me.

I'd want to swap for a few days, it would probably help with my irrational fear of men. Maybe. Also, my bladder is always yelling at me when I go biking, it would be so convenient to just whip that thing out in the woods.

2 days, sure. Just to see what's so fascinating about having a weener to throw around.. :p

Then again, I fear I might start enjoying beer and football. That's a scary thought.

For a while; but certainly not forever.
That menstruation and pregnancy shit be freaky yo.

Girls seem to have so much more fun with all the sexual stuff. The male orgasm is basically just a shiver and a grunt and then you've made a mess.
While women are portrayed like... well, this:
And I'd be damned if I didn't want to try that some time.

I want to find out if I can still read a map if I'm a woman, because most women in my life lack that skill and I think it's a societal cause rather than an actual gender difference.

ie. I think something in my development which most of the females I know missed out on contributed to my ability to read maps. Not some physical difference caused by my gender.

It'd be really interesting to see how much menstruation associated hormonal changes affect mood etc.

That being said, I'd like to live a day in the life of an old person, to help me fully grasp the frustrations associated with inhabiting an aged body, live in a wheel chair for a year, live blind for a while, live deaf, etc.

I have difficulty comprehending how others perceive the world and it'd be fun/interesting to experience life from new viewpoints for a short period.

Yeah, I'd swap to being a guy for a day, just to see what that was like. But I don't necessarily think that that makes me, (or anyone else) transgender for thinking it. I think it's just human nature to be curious about the things we don't have.

Good lord, no. Having boobs is awesome, I have something to play with and look at all day long. Plus if I didn't have to wear a bra, where would I keep my cigs and phone?!

Well I guess there's always that element of curiosity when It comes to this sort of thing. Gender is very mysterious and humans are curious so it makes sense that people would want to try something new for a short period of time. So the poll doesn't surprise me in the least. Also why is everyone so preoccupied with the sexual aspects of being in a different body. I mean I know humans love to have sex and thing about it all the time. But there are other aspects to inhabiting a different gender body as well. I mean continue to talk about the sex stuff all you want. But why is the first thing people think of when it comes to this issue?
