Poll: Do you watch anime?

Hello.

I've been a member of escapist for a while now, and it still amazes me how many people here like anime and express it in discussions, or with an avatar, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against anime. The thing I have been pondering is that Escapist is a video gaming site, and doesn't have much to do with anime. Are a lot of "gamers" anime-lovers then, too?
This isn't really a debate-thread, I just wish to satisfy my curiosity.

For discussion value, explain what makes anime interesting/non-interesting to you, and if you watch only a bit or a lot of it.

There should be a poll with some options, if there isn't, don't blame me.

I don't watch much anime but I do enjoy a lot games with anime oriented style.

I watch a lot.
Mainly because I like the stories, characters and settings of places.
Ofcourse there are really many same kind of anime series and clichéd once as well.
But nevertheless I still continue watching them. ^^

I like good fiction. If there's anime show that meets my standards of good fiction I'll watch it. Examples are Cowboy Bebop, Ghost In The Shell, Studio Ghibli stuff and recently Monster.

I will however avoid pretty much every 'standard' anime, the kind of anime filled with anime clichés; the retarded faces they pull, ridiculous fanservice, those weird flashy backgrounds, that kinda stuff.

The most normal animé I ever watched was Naruto, I stopped watching that when I realised that the best moment of the show (both normal and Shippuuden) had already past; Rock Lee's fight versus Shimimaru. Coolest. fight choreography. EVAH!

OT: Umm, I do enjoy anime and manga. For anime my tastes are a tad more specific. Recently just got done watching the whole souleater anime on Netflix instant cue. Also have watched nonfiller bleach and occasionally Fairy tail.

Not as much as I used to but yes, I do watch anime. Kuroshitsuji being one of my favourites =3

yup. making 40% of the threads on a gaming site be the same 3 anime threads annoys me beyond everything.Plus the inability to accept people not liking it makes me wish bad things.

I have only ever seam one and that was death note. I loved it even though at times it felt odd for some reason i watched it to the end and cared enough to give a crap at the end. So yeah i guess i like them.

One thing I've noticed among many gaming sites is that there's a pretty big overlap between gamers and anime fans. I think Pokemon has a little to do with it, otherwise I don't really know why.

Also, since you asked, I suppose my growing up on Pokemon had something to do with my liking anime, though ultimately I just ran into a good bit of series I liked.

I've been watching anime since the early 80s when I first discovered Robotech and soon after discovered the "Japanimation Club" at a nearby university. There were a group of Japanese students who would bring over tapes from home which the club would then fansub and share with members. I was the youngest kid there (my mom would drop me off ;-) and it was beyond cool for me.

These days I'll watch the occasional series, but I'm much pickier than I was back then.

I don't indulge in it terribly much. But I mean, hey, all good things in moderation, y'know? Anyone could be accused of being obsessively glued to something, whether it's anime or, say, even cars. Moderation. I love Yahtzee's Zero Punctuation, but I don't have my mouth tightened around his big fat...what? I was going to say weekly game review. Honest.

No, I don't. "Liking anime" implies I'll like everything just because it's anime.
I like some anime that are good. Just like I like some western cartoons that are good, and some games that are good. I don't like the medium, I like what people do within it.

It's just another way to tell stories, like any form of media.
