Yes, I watch the occasional anime... and there's quite a bit of overlap between anime and gaming, at least in the generation of gaming I grew up in... but I too get annoyed with people who love all anime, as though it were a single genre. In my experience, anime is much like Hollywood, only with a different set of formulas and stereotypes. A vast majority of it simply follows the formulas that have been successful in the past, and most of that is forgettable at best. Occasionally someone puts together a brilliant show or movie, though.
For instance, if not for Cowboy Bebop, I probably would have sworn off all episodic anime when I was a teenager.

As if it isn't obvious from my dumb name and avatar, yes, I enjoy the animes. The first anime I ever watched was Sailor Moon when I was like five years old, and I've always been interested in it since. I'm also part of a web site/forum that's essentially the anime version of this one.

I love my anime dearly and have for near 7 years now. In fact I'm going to an anime convention this weekend, I'm just that bad.
Funny story.
I was on a german field trip and the restaurant that we were going to canceled on us. So, we had to figure out what to do instead. Some people were looking for local events on their phones, when someone said that there was an anime convention going on. The teacher asked if we wanted to go. I said, "what the hell", and the rest of the class agreed. So, I got to meet the guy who does the voice for Ed in Full Metal Alchemist and played video games for an hour, so it turned out pretty good.

dear Onia,
the escapist provides a way for people to nerd out on subjects that in the real world they would share with just a couple of close friends..because the world is mostly inhabited by meatheads who would just say animes are gay..u like em so u must be gay too..its sad but true..growing up with pokemon and sailor moon..made me to hate animes and dislike them totally..so for a period i was a part of the rest of the world...a meat head..but some friends of mine told me i should try watching to hellsing..and a loved it..and ever since i became an anime lover..and seen a lot of series like bleach, claymore, elven lied, full metal alchemist, avatar the last airbender etc. some i liked for the storey, others for the action..others for the characters(deathnote)..
one last thing..games and animes are part of the same culture..pop culture..so its very likely that a game addict would enjoy animes..and a lot less likely that he would prefer football(i like basketball ^^)

I assume you mean read, right?

I used to watch anime almost religiously. But, it's been a while since I've done so.

I do indeed WATCH anime but I do not BUY anime. UNLESS in fact, Miyozaki Films count.
Thanks for reminding me. I went on a Miyazaki movie binge the past summer, and it was awesome.

I love anime, i dislike the really long ones though. Like bleach, one piece, and naruto. The fact that it has over 150 episodes makes it feel like an elitist club. And hey get away from the main issues. I thoroughly enjoyed death note, darker than black, and now I'm watching code grass and it's awesome
lol, "Code Grass." Welcome to the Escapist. While you're here, you might want to drop by the Anime Fan Club. Spell check and capitalization is your friend, don't be a jerk, and you'll get along just fine. Enjoy your stay.
Ya, I'm sorry. I was doing that on my Ipod so its auto correct changed "Geass" and thats another reason why some things aren't capitalized and are misspelled. I'll check that out! Thank you!

I ended up picking "I like anime X but I dislike the rest..." not because I legitimately dislike the vast majority of anime, but because the stuff I slog through to get to the ones I like is so off-putting that I find myself searching for new anime to watch very rarely. For the record, what I like is: Claymore, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Ghost in the Shell: SAC and many films, most of them being Miyazaki films.

There are a couple of "anime" works that are worth watching, in my opinion. Most of it is fan service goofiness. Since I'm not a fan, I don't get much out of it.

There is a certain kind of grandiosity to the emotional scale of anime that I find appealing. Even when being understated, the exaggerated features of the characters tend to speak more in addition to any dialogue. That, and when it gets hyper-active, you can feel like you are on drugs without the hassle of dealing with finnicky drug dealers.

I do, but haven't been lately. I've been meaning to get back into watching it, and I've got a friend who keeps nagging me to watch FLCL, Elfen Lied, Ghost in the Shell, and so on.

I just... have been too distracted playing video games. >.<
