I took "like Anime , but dislike the rest." It's not just one series, I like a few, but most of what I've seen (which is probably the better part of anime, since I only try stuff several people have recommended) isn't to my liking. Especially if the anime applies what I call lazy animation (leaving out faces, doing one-colour backgrounds, still-frame characters moving across the screen) or suddenly turns the style weird (chibi characters, overexaggerated facial expressions), I'm pretty much instantly turned off. I never could stomach Full metal Alchemist, as an example, despite the more or less interesting looking settings and characters.
Of course, around here, when I was in High School, there was no Fantasy or SciFi of any kind on TV (ever. Perhaps one Scifi-ish action movie per month, if you were lucky), there were no SciFi or Fantasy comics (at least not for people older than about 12), basically the entire Fantasy/SciFi entertainment I had was books (and I still love books. I read a few hundred pages per week). So, when my even nerdier friend came to me with subtitled anime off the internet, it was a revelation. "My god, there is non-written SciFi out there".
