This thought occurred to me as I was telling my mom about Portal (just finished it, it was excellent). She said she might try it, which made me wonder: do many parents play video games?
While gaming is often seen as a youth phenomenon, a lot of older adults are into it as well. My mom used to play a lot of point-and-click games (Myst, King's Quest, etc.) and my dad got me into shooters (Doom on the PC...good times).

Elaborate, Escapists. Do your parents play video games?

My parents think the sheer concept of gaming is completely pointless and immature. They regularly complain that games have no entertainment value whatsoever, and anyone who plays them is stupid. Short answer no :p

My mom plays RTSs, TBSs, and simulators. Simulators are by far her favorite. I brought her in with Sim City 1. Since then I have introduced her to titles like Anno and Civilization which she loves.

My dad sometimes plays chess or one of the card games that comes with Windows (solitaire, freecell, etc.). Does that count?

Also, he used to play Prince of Persia (1 and 2).

My mom makes Wii Fit part of her daily workout (amongst other things such as cycling). She has also taken a shining to Bejeweled and Tetris.

Nine times out of ten my mom plays most of the console RPGs I play (albeit not very well). It's just the easier ones, though. (She is, however, the best tabletop gamer I've ever met.)

My dad got me into online gaming in the first place with Quake III when I was just a kid, and he used to play the old Tomb Raider games a lot, surprise surprise. Mostly computer-based FPS games though.

Yes. Or more correctly, my dad plays.
He plays World of Warcraft, quite casually though. He started when he and my mom were going through the divorce. To keep in touch with me I think since I played alot and lived away from home.
We still play together though. WoW, Halo, GoW and other games.
It's actually nice to be able to do that with him, to be able to bond over common interests.

My mom doesn't (I tried to get her to play Portal, but that was a disaster). My dad, on the other hand, is the one who got me into gaming. I watched him play a lot of shooters before I was allowed to play.

My mom used to play a lot of Animal Crossing. Then when she discovered Final Fantasy X and XII she fell in love with those games instead. She clocked well over 150 hours combined from both games. Right now, she plays WoW with me.

The only thing my dad has ever played in the realm of electronic gaming is Tetris for the Gameboy and home computer.

My dad used to be an arcade beast before my mom had me.

My mom bought a Genesis for him, but he didn't much like home gaming. That Genesis became my first console and the rest is history.

He's tried to get into some things, but...not really working out.

Dad played NES and only played Burnout 2 on the PS2. Mother played nothing as far as I know.
