My mum plays casual games like Solitaire and Bejeweled Blitz, but my dad's the one who got me hooked on proper gaming in the first place, watching him go through the first Half-Life and Commander Keen type games.

He's also a dab hand on Unreal Tournament (99, GOTY) although he gets kickvoted from servers really often because all he uses is the Impact Hammer - and usually wins with it.

My Dad plays a lot of FPS and is quite good at them, my Mum on the other hand, literally doesn't even know how to turn on a pc or any console.

I am trying to get mine to play them. Any suggestions for someone who has parents who haven't touched a game since Asteroids?

My mom plays Farmville and Tetris.

My dad used to play Mario Kart 64 games with me when I was younger, but that was many years ago now. Last time he showed any interest in games was when I was playing through Call of Duty World at War.

My mom's a casual gamer, playing games on Pogo after she's done work for the day.

My dad, on the other hand, plays more games that I'm interested in. When I was a little kid he used to always beat all the impossibly hard levels in games. Nowadays we usually play together. We even played through the Red Alert 3 campaign missions together. Man that was a lot of fun.

My mom actually used to be some kind of video game wizard waaaay back in the day. She apparently aced every Atari game and even kicked a lot of ass on my old Genesis. A couple of years ago I even downloaded "Gens", the Sega Genesis emulator for her computer for her birthday.

They play Solitaire (maybe), and I'm not sure that counts although I suppose that could be disputed.

My Dad tried to play Halo 3 and got killed by a wall
seriously
Wait, how?
We're still debating that one.
He walked into a cliff face then instantly died, I watched it in theatre mode over and over and I still cant get my head around it...

Oh, how I wish they would; definitely would've made bonding with them easier. They're very much more likely to pressure me into getting strait-A's (at high school I did, but at college that's asking too much) and constantly look down on video games like they're completely worthless. They don't even play casual games in their free time, just watch sports games or sit around and do basically nothing. The one time they tried playing was at a New Years party with Guitar Hero, to which they quickly became disinterested in when they couldn't beat "Smoke on the Water" on easy.

Interestingly, when I was younger my dad did play a little. He liked Aces over Europe and I think he played some Age of Empires 2. Oh and Heroes of Might and Magic 2! But I don't think I've seen him play anything for... years and years. Like 10+. So no, I'd say my parents don't play games. They golf.

The closest my parents have come to playing games was my dad trying mario kart on the Wii, which I may say was very amusing :)
