Okay I was watching Doctor Who. The episode where the Cyberman and the Daleks are having that huge fight. And they mention something called the Time War.

It has been mentioned in a lot of episodes but its the War between the TimeLords like the Doctor and the Daleks.

Now onto the discussion. This part of the Doctor Who universe has never really been expanded on or viewed. I think that this Pivotal part in the Doctor Who universe would be perfect for a game. A Doctor Who game has never been made and fighting as a TimeLord or a Dalek would be intriguing to say the least in my opinion. There could also be other modes where you can play as Cybermen or Sycorax's or even normal humans.

So do you think it would be a good idea to base a game around the Time War in Doctor Who and if you do how would you like it to work?

People actually watch Doctor Who? I thought it was something you just randomly find on tv at random hours in the morning for the sole purpose of being laughed at.

Why Sycorax? What relation do they have to the time war? At all? And well with doctor who being seen as a kiddies show, it would be a kiddie game so I doubt we shall see.

Battlefield: Time War

Any time soon

There have been Doctor Who games, if I remember correctly. I'm just afraid that a game like this wouldn't play well. It'd certainly be an interesting story, but we've gotta think gameplay here.

Why Cybermen too? They werent in the Time war.

What I mean is they could have little mini modes. Timelord vs Dalek would be great but why forget all the rest of the Doctor Who Characters.

Yeah, I reckon it would work, although I can't really see the Doctor hefting a laser around, blowing Daleks up left, right and centre. He seems a bit too emotional for that.

Nah, I reckon (assuming it's a third-person adventure, and you're playing as the Doctor) that it'd be stealthy-puzzley action, sneaking around various places and using your sonic screwdriver and insane Time Lord brain to meddle with things.

No, because

1) There should remain some mystery to what happened during the Time War. The Time War was cool when it was just this horrible mysterious thing the Doctor talked about; it got less cool when more things got revealed about it, and it would just be ruined if it became clarified through any medium, video game or otherwise.

2) The Time Lords are frakkin' wusses. Seriously--you ever seen the old series? They're a bunch of silly old men (and the occasional woman) running around in ridiculous collars talking about how civilized they are and how it's not nice to get involved in things because that would make things happen. There's a reason the Doctor ran away from Gallifrey with his granddaughter, and it was at least in part because it was hideously boring. The only non-wuss Time Lords are deemed Renegades, like, for example, the Doctor.

So anyway, in terms of gameplay, this means that we'd either have to make Time Lords what they aren't, or everyone will want to play the Daleks. Which might be fine, but it seems like a game like that you would want to try playing both sides more or less equally.

Now, THAT SAID, I think a Doctor Who themed wargame would be very cool, I just don't think it should be the Time War. (Actually, there's kind of a neat Cyberman war game on the BBC Website, it combines Risk with some 3rd person action infiltration. It ain't bad for a little Flash game). I'd love to see something Starcrafty or Sins of a Solar Empirey with the various Doctor Who races like the Sontarans, the Rutans, the oldskool Cybermen (because the newskool ones aren't galactic conquerors), the Daleks, etc.

Or as someone suggested, a puzzle-adventure game where you play the Doctor (which I think was how the last Doctor Who video game was designed).

True I guess... but wouldn't Darlek's totally annihilate everything but time lords?

Hmm ... True ... Some reason could be invented to make them vunrable maybe? I just suggested a plot not the whole game design :p Your right though.

I thought it was his daughter he took and I also thought he was the last Time Lord left alive after the Time War. I just thought it might be a good video game battle scenario because the Doctor says he was on the front lines of the battle in Arcadia. So I wouldnt have thought they that wussy.

Then again Ive never watched the first ever series. Ive seen the rest however.

Nope, was his granddaughter, Susan [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Foreman]. If you get a chance, I do recommend some of the old 60s stuff. Be warned, however, the pacing is sometimes glacial... but the characters are fun, and it's fun to see the Doctor learning to like humans--who knew he'd become their greatest champion?

The Time Lords aren't seen until '69 in the story "The War Games" which I think is about to come out on DVD.

I think again the Time War is best left to the imagination, but as I said I do think some kind of DW themed war scenario game would be very cool.

In Britain where it originated, it's one of the most popular shows; in fact, I don't think it ever was unpopular here.

Depends really. Doctor Who have this really weird budget which to compensate for the episodes which are amazing with loads of awesome graphics and such. They have an episode which is incredibly dull. Its up to you really. Doctor Who is a fantastic series. I suggest just watching it on tv or something and dont waste money on a DVD. They show pretty much every episode on BBC Three and Watch. (If you live in Britain anyway).

The Time War, from stuff the Doctor has said, was insane. The last battle "ten million Dalek ships burned in a second..." or something like that...and the Time Lords burned with them.

But a game in this universe would be inevitably bad, and detract from the franchise. I'd just like to see it in more detail on the show.

Maybe an RPG? Like KOTOR or Bioshock? I don't think you should play the doctor either, but another Timelord. However any game would be crap, so I wouldn't want to risk it.
