I shall get to the bottom of this new cult!

I'll solve it for you.

Bungie made Halo.
I like Halo.

I only read the seventh word of the seventh sentence in the seventh paragraph of the seventh page in the Halo manuals.
But to get there you have to read the rest in order to count your way to the requisite number. therefore, how can you be sure the rest doesn't infiltrate your mind somewhere along the way?

I don't always read them, but by god, if I buy the game used it had better have that fucking manual.
Ha, damn right it better have that manual.

I usually only read the manual if there's a function the game bangs on about but never actually explains how to use it, like Harmonic Combos in Jade Empire (which, sadly, I bought used and didn't have the manual).

And there is the magic of others who can read.

i read the one for gta4, to look for good radio songs. oh and also killzone. because it looked and actually was quite cool. i've never however read a manual to learn the controls or how to install a program properly (and i work in an IT department) its a matter of principle.

If I have to read the damn manual then the designers messed up. Unless of course the game is completely original and requires a bit of an intro but most console game's controls are, and should be, pretty standardized.

Always always always always! It never hurts to read the manual; you never know what hidden gem you might find. My friend never knew how to do "that slitty throat thing" from MGS3, but luckily they show you in-game in MGS4. Always!
Although never on the bus home, as much as it would be a good place to read it.

For PC games, i never read the manual, its easy enough just to look in settings, but for ps2 games (yes i still own 1) most of the time i read through just to check controls and backstory etc

I used to make it a ritual to always read the full manual before playing a game. Now I just kind of glance at the control and game mechanics sections, and refer back to it if I ever need it later on.
