I bought one when they first came out and I still love it, much better than an iwhatever IMO. My only fear is that I have no idea what to replace it with when it finally dies.

I have always used an Apple device, iPhone or iPod, their sound quality through the headphones is far superior to any other portable MP3 player I have owned. My iPod touch blows the crap out of my Samsung Galaxy S3 phones music playback for example.

They're comparing dedicated music players. Your iPod touch also blows the crap out of an iPhone; hardware priority in the latter is given to systems other than the DAC and amp.

They sound the same in my experience. I used to have a iPhone 4 and there is no change in quality to my iPod which is the same generation as the phone. Only real difference between the two was the phone was not as thin likely because it has the hardware to ring people.

Regardless both sound better than any dedicated music player I have used/owned, the biggest thing I notice is the lower bass sounds. They seem to come through much better with the Apple products.

I have an old Zune 80 and Zune 120. I enjoyed them quite a bit until the software started acting wonky (it got pretty fickle with what songs it could find and subsequently play).

Now I'm constantly stalking the Consumer Reports website trying to see what's a good alternative that is not an Apple product of some kind.
I find that the number of good dedicated music players has been dwindling in the past few years. I hope that ipod is not the only music player in the future.

I used to want one and I was going to buy one. However I read up on it and realized I needed software to transfer my music. Because of that I decided to get myself an Archos thingy. To this day that has been my favourite mp3 player.

There is supposed to be the Pono coming out at some point which is supposed to be far better quality than MP3/MP4.

I actually use the Zune media player even though I have never owned a Zune product. The media player is just looks and works better for me than the default Windows player. I suppose its kinda cheating since I've never owned there stuff but if they are of the same quality as the media player I think I would be pretty happy with it.

I use Zune as my music player on my PC. I used to have a zune mp3 player but the screen broke on it after a month or so, so I got a different player instead.
I had no issues with the zune I had, other than it broke fairly quickly into it's lifespan. The zune software on my pc plays music, and I can sort things in the usual manner (by artist, song title, album etc) that's all I ask of it.

Creative makes pretty decent stuff that is fairly priced. Its what I've been using for years and they can even take a beating. Mind you the largest I've gotten is the 8Gb since I never needed any more than that but my older brother has had his 32Gb for 8 years and it still works great.

I have a Windows Phone 7 device, which still lives with the Zune software. I'm very happy with it and have no desire to upgrade, especially since Windows Phone 8 doesn't allow me the same control that Zune does over what exactly is on my device. Even though Microsoft Points are going away, and the Zune software isn't getting an update -- meaning at the end of today I'll no longer be able to rent or purchase stuff from my PC or my phone -- I hope that Microsoft keeps the account management side open so that I can still download what I purchase elsewhere.

I have and use a Zune, and love how the software doesn't seem as invasive as iTunes.

I used to have a Zune HD myself. I actually really liked the little thing and thought it was a pretty underrated device that never really got the attention it deserved.

... then about six months ago it got stolen. Soooo I'm back to my nearly 10 year old Creative Zen Vision:M, which despite its age is holding out pretty well.
Not kidding, that was my progression of music players. Once I got tired of the iPod, I did a search for good music players. The Creative Zen Vision M blew me away until it started acting funny (locked up all the time, the scroll decided when and if it would work). Then I looked up the Zune.

Got be honest, people... believe the hype. It was a wonderful device for us who like music and videos primarily. Being someone who's big into order and catalogs, having the ability

My transition from Zune was to the Samsung Galaxy player. It's really a smart phone that doesn't make calls. But don't let that throw you. Even the standard earbuds that come with it make fantastic sound.

I have a Galaxy player 4 which has rear facing speakers for some reason, but that sound output is great. A family member took my galaxy into the bathroom with her when she wanted to shower, and I heard the entire episode clearly with the bathroom door closed, the shower on, and my room's door closed. The distance between my bathroom and my room is about... 15 feet.

When creative labs battery started to die on me, the only option was to get send it in. The Galaxy 4 has a removable battery.

And to the best feature, even if sound, video, and basically being able to treat it like a smart phone isn't enough for you. Micro SD card.

I literally have unlimited space with me because I can always get another sd card. I pop the back off of my Galaxy player 4, slip in a new micro sd, and boom. New Content. On the Go. Coming back from a trip to six flags, my Godson got bored with the show we were watching on the drive back. My cousin took my card holder from my wallet, popped in the micro sd with 'the Weekenders' (best cartoon ever) and we all laughed our way back to New York from Jersey.

The Samsung Galaxy player is discontinued now, but there are a few units floating out there. The word is the Galaxy Player version 2 is coming out soon, so I'm definitely getting that the second it drops.

captcha: Pickle Juice... Ok, fucking odd. There was an episode of the weekenders with Pickle Juice. This thing knows ALL.

I got a 120GB Zune back in early 2009 I think. I wanted something with plenty of storage space that was capable of movie playback as well and I didn't want an iPod. I'm still using it to this day on a nearly daily basis and it's given me no real issues. I also have to say, I've liked the track pad and the menu's far better than any iPod I've ever seen. Navigation actually seems to make sense with my Zune, whereas I find Apple likes to give the various menu's the least helpful names imaginable, and the whole circle pad for moving around has always been a stupid idea as far as I'm concerned.

So yeah, still love my Zune. One of the few things Microsoft has ever gotten right, particularly in terms of interface.

I love my Zune, that thing is a tank. I don't use it for everyday music listening. But when in my car going on long trips, or skiing that thing is always with me.
