So first off, I like this song. I've heard it on the radio before, and I enjoy it.

I'm seeing a lot of hate for it, but most of the justification for that hate is that "it's simply not your taste in music" or "it's not metal." So really, why don't you like it? Is it not complex enough? There seems to be a huge community (not just on this site, everywhere) of people who won't listen to anything in a simple 4/4 time. Is is such a crime that music should be accessible? Music with complexity has its place, but so does pop, and saying that you can only find complex music enjoyable makes people sound soooo pretentious that I want to blast "Sexy *****" just to drown them out.
It's even more stupid because a lot of metal songs in turn have a simple 4/4 time signature, only difference being is that it's sped up so it seems more complicated. However, what people seem to forget is that speed =/= complexity.

I agree with your other points though; I'm currently doing an AS course in Music Technology, almost half of which is done entirely using synthesisers and they are amazing things to use. Though I think what's used to auto-tune the voice to distortion (such as what Kanye West uses a lot) is actually called a vocoder, but it is still an amazing thing to mess around with when you have a voice on loop and feel like having a laugh.

And of course people follow the philosophy here that "The masses have no taste", and that "People who don't follow the masses like mindless sheep and be radical and unique are badass and cool". Irony, anyone?

On topic, I don't mind Akon that much. I did use to hate singers/ bands like this with a passion, but I have become more tolerant to the different genres over time and would gladly listen to something like this. I wouldn't buy the album, though, not because of my dislike for the song, but because of my own preference for other styles which take priority in the buying list.

As for club music in general, or club music/ pop music, it is hard for me to state my opinion due to my own lack of experience in the club scene and also the variety of its music. For a music exam I had to learn seven different types of club dance music, and a large number of them popular styles as well, from drum 'n' bass (such as Pendulum [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvthY6PoTIA] and The Prodigy [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di9OBlcCiDk&feature=related]), to trance (such as Hot Chip [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW94AEmzFhQ]) and even not so well known ones like ambient (such as Brian Eno [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9amDbeq6t0]). Whilst a lot of that isn't music from the hardcore club dance scene, it still makes up the overall club scene.

As for why people like it, off-beat rythmns are a serious reason why: Off-beat rythmns have proven to be popular to dance to for reasons unknown to me, but they do make people want to dance. It was partially because of the off-beat rythmn that reggae became such a popular genre, as it made it such fun to dance to. Because, lets face it, everyone wants to start moving when they hear Jimmy Cliff's You Can get it if You Really Want [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzSzhHmhiOY].

At first it was alright, but when the cliched "Damn yous a sexy chick" came on I almost had blood coming from my ears. There's nothing I hate more than some pretentious rap artist singing about how manly a seasoned vocalist must be if he pretends that he is still very much a hard gangster and a serious *Ughh* Playa if he spends all his time bitching to the media about trivial crap, traversing around his palace made of gold in his diamond slippers with maids throwing ten dollar bills in front of him wherever he walks and jetsetting around the world forcing the P generation (It's nowadays *Shudder* generation, because the P stands for pretentious) to shell out 100 bucks to see some wasted rapper drivel out the same cookie-cutter crap which the music industry has been glorifying for the past decade! So in short I didn't really like it, and I'd hate to see what you're schools inhabitants all look like...all those fuckin' fedoras, and pink sunnies which make guys look gay.

In fact to soothe your ears here's some real music

OMG PIRATES!

Sorry but I don't think it's appropiate to make a thread just to ask people if they like a single song.

Maybe if you discussed a little about how the hell should extremely hot bikini chicks be appropiate for the music. Other than that...

I feel like people only hate pop music to be non-conformist, and I have a whole slew of problems with non-conformism, but that's another topic for another thread.

Oh, and when autotune is used to distort the human voice rather than correct it (like Kanye, T-Pain and Akon do), I think it sounds really cool.

To each his own, I suppose.
I agree completely. Some people seem to think that in order for music to be good, it must be complex, and saying things like 'this isn't music' just makes them sound completely arrogant.

That said, I am not a massive fan of Akon or this song, although all of David Guetta's other recent collaborations have been pretty awesome.

Looks like I'm in the minority who chose "love it".

To be honest, ever since I went to university and went to "popular" club nights I find my music taste to be extremely broad and you'd have to go to quite an effort to find a song I don't like (or at least that I don't find tolerable). I also listen to a lot of BBC radio 1, so I hear mostly popular music, whatever that happens to be at the time. At the moment my listening is largely limited to that. It's not that I have no interest in more obscure artists, but there's no way I'm going to go out of my way to find ones I like when I have readily available music that I also like.

I would encourage everyone who's said that it's not their sort of music to at least give unfamiliar genres a try - I listened almost exclusively to rock/punk/indie before I left school and hated pop/dance/drum and bass etc. Now I love most of it. It's nice to be able to listen to the radio and not change the station all the time because I don't like the song.

Uhg... Do not want...

Utterly pedestrian and forgettable. I'd be surprised if anyone remembers this song a year from now...

Sorry, OP... you can like it if you want...

Umm...yea, I don't like it. I'm not a fan of that genre of music. It's not so much that its not complex (as some people have suggested/whinged aboug) cus' I'm listening to "Tubthumping" right now, which is mostly about drinking (but if you do look through my music, it is a little more complex than "Your a sexy *****"), I prefer my music to have a little more substance than some machine producing some wierd noise with the same lyrics being repeated over and over again.

I think Dylan Moran sums up my opinion on these types of songs:

It's ok, I'm in the minority too. And you're exactly right, it's amazing what experience will do to ignorance.

So we can't hate stuff because it's not our taste of music? What the hell? The question is not "Is this song good/bad?", it's "Do you like this song?".

Lots of people don't like pop because... well, they just don't. It's not their tastes. Just like people don't like metal or punk or country or rap. They don't need any more justification than that for not liking it.

It really doesn't get much more complicated than that.
But if you want superficial reasons, hey, I can do those!
-I've hated Akon for a loooong time, for the same vague reason I hated Usher for: a really high pitched voice. They bug me, and hurt my ears.
-I do not like auto-tune at all, as I believe that a song should have something of a flow to it, and jarring shifts in pitch ruin that for me.
-I enjoy a well played guitar in my music, and it was conspicuously absent in that track.
-More thinly justified reasons can be filled in here if you like.

And on that I have no real stance, as I lack the musical knowledge to properly comment on it.

Or, as noted before, it could simply not be to their liking.
Not everything has to be an act of rebellion.
That shit gets tiring.

Wow. They'll put anything on the radio and clubs huh? Obviously, I didn't enjoy that song, actually I kind of loathe it. And that effect on the vocals WAS cool, but now it's so overused it's just annoying now.

I believe you. I sort of generalized. So I stand by my opinions from before, but they don't necessarily apply to you. Or even anyone here in particular. It's just something I've noticed.

Dizzee Rascal is a ledgend, who doesn't like him?

The song's good, but the video's better - skimpy bikinis ftw.

I'm so into Ain't No Rest for the Wicked by Cage the Elephant at the minute - slightly embarrassed that watching the Borderlands intro is what got me into it though.
