Shadow Warrior was like Duke 3D with a different personality and different interaction and yet another interesting sense of humor. I really loved that one. It even had some 3D model replacements of sprites, and usable vehicles.

Duke 3D was vastly superior to Doom in every way - you could jump, duck, aim up and down, there were unique weapons (I mean come on, shrink-ray? freeze-thrower? What other game gave you pipe-bombs!?)...

I liked the city and urban environments, you could go underwater, you had MORE THAN ONE TYPE OF DOOR (THAT'S A BIG ONE FOLKS!), you had subways, you could take a piss in a toilet (for health!), you could break glass, put holes in walls, look at security camera screens, etc...

There were just so many engine advancements that puts Duke way ahead of its time.

I understand what Doom did, but Duke was a bigger step, and the Build engine alone is the reason for it: It was easy to make a map, easy to mod artwork, easy to make a room, apply textures, and then go into a 3D mode and see what you just did to edit it as if you were walking around the room.

Oh, and I'm gonna ignore the fact that you had a Jetpack, because after I mention that, there should be no reason anyone could enjoy Doom more than Duke.

Obviously, I loved both games, though my favorite doom map was from plutonia in doom 2, (Go2it), and I think both games had interesting enemies and environments, but Duke Nukem had the interactivity and a personality that made the game more gripping and identifiable.

I was no longer a nameless space marine, I was duke nukem... and it was awesome when I was like 7...lol

Oh yes, i completly agree that Duke3d was technologicly far superior to doom in a number of ways, doom for me was the final kick i needed to start my facination into computers. Without it i wouldnt be where i am today!

First saw it at a relative's house. Their computer didn't have a sound card so the game was using the PC speaker variety of sound effects. I got killed really quickly and complained that the game was too hard, but though that the graphics were awesome.

I was at Elementary school, it was raining, looking through the files of the old pc in the back, found doom, got 2 mates, 1 moved, 1 shoot, 1 aimed.
