Depends on your definition. Bigoted and prejudiced, yes. Racist? Line call depending on your definition.

I hesitate to call things 'racist' unless I know what definition the other person is using.

Plus I hate it when they or other people refer to them/themselves as "blackfellas" it just sounds so mangy.
Maybe so, but as most of the Aboriginals I know prefer the term 'blackfella' in informal settings I go with that. Of course, all of them prefer to refered to by their names.

If you want to be really prickly about it, tell me what state (or territory) you live in and I'll use Koori, Murri, Nunga or Nyoongah as appropriate.

I think that if you're at an age at which you're reaching maturity, then ignorance no longer becomes an excuse. For a 9 year old with racist parents, then of course that child will think the same, but if you're 16/17, then it's up to you to realise that your parents are wrong to think like that.

Ignorance is perfectly fine so long as it doesn't create negativity, but if you have unjustified reasons for acting negatively towards something, then you need to find some sort of genuine justification.

technicly thats a bit contradictory becuase you hate someone because of the way they think and call them less than pure humans
jews thought differently
so did gypsies
and disabled people
just saying

your most likely a really nice person but everyone has a bit of evil inside of them
Hang on, are you trying to incite hatred towards the groups targetted and eliminated by The Nazi party?
nonononononononononono
i'm jewish god no i'm just saying not liking someone for the way they think is veeeeeerrry bad and deciding on face value (like that dipshit who i just argued with) is also wrong no hate here no way
Do a google search "neo-nazi" and see what company you have associated yourself with. The fact that you are jewish makes it even more apalling. i don't think you will find one person that agrees with you.

We're all inherently racist from birth (#5) [http://www.cracked.com/article_18404_6-shockingly-evil-things-babies-are-capable-of.html], the most you can do is suppress it. Saying someone's a bad person because the're racist is like saying they're a bad person for being hungry. As long as they don't chose to act on it or anything, they're fine.
Making up things and publishing them on the internet doesn't make them facts (see Wikipedia). Still waiting for my proof (maybe from someone with a college degree in genetic or behavior related science?).

It makes you a crazy person, at the least. Can you imagine living somewhere where everyone looks practically the same? (my condolences if you actually do) I have enough trouble telling people apart as it is, diversity eases that a bit. I'd like to pour a random, permanant food coloring-type thing over babies when they're born, one for every color on the wheel.

Yes, I mean bigoted and prejudiced.

Dear Escapists,

GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE.

Everyone here has either made a joke, made a snap judgment, or been made otherwise uncomfortable at least once in their lives because of your inherent racism (fear of the different).

YOU ARE ALL A LITTLE BIT RACIST.

That doesn't necessarily mean you put on sheets and swastika tattoos and live in Arizona. I just means that you have a bias that (at least initially) colors the way you feel about people you don't know. Since you don't know them, you assume things because the brain doesn't like to be in the dark about anything. So you pretend you know what those people are all about.

But I digress. My real point is GET OVER YOURSELVES.

Admitting your racism displays your intelligence on the matter.
Thank you. You are the only person I can find on this thread who has the whole picture. Everyone is racist in some way. Even babies as old as 6 months are racist. It isn't ignorant to be racist, just ignorant to act upon your racism. I will admit I am racist. I don't look down on anyone, I don't think I am better, I just prefer my own race above other races to hang out. I am friends with people of races I am racist against and they are fine people. However, knowing them does not change my view on the matter. This reasoning doesn't justify hate crimes and things of the like which is what people associate racism with. Racism isn't in of itself bad; the actions persuaded by it more than likely are.

I think the majority of people understand that we've got that slight bit of racism in us, but the discussion is about people that haven't used their common sense to try and be as fair as possible regardless of colour or ethnicity, it's about the idiots that would be categorized under "racist".

No they are not a bad person, just conflicted. People like that need to realize that stereotypes get you nowhere, and that not everyone fits a stereotype.

I'm with everyone else here. Not bad, but ignorant. Any sort of "ism" denotes ignorance above anything else.
I'd say it is worth noting that everybody is a bit racist. Not necessarily harmfully so, but it's biologically how we're meant to be.

All people are racist to a certain level. Maybe not due to colour of skin, but politically or religiously also. Many also have a reason for being racist i.e. raised in a certain way, or perhaps fear of another group harming them or others (plenty of people in the UK feeling like that at the moment), or have been harmed by a particular group in the past.

I don't consider it even to be 'ignorance' all the time.

My brother and friend are both racist, I hate it about them, but I don't think that they are ultimatly bad people. I would think that my friend would be more sensitive to the situation considering he's asian but i don't know

Yeah, a vast number of people are racist thru ignorance, and you can't really hate them for a single attribute, just put it aside and try to ignore the tirade of utter arse that falls out of their mouths occasionally.

I know I was racist when I was growing up in the 80s, thought jokes about wogs and pakis were hilarious, and then I grew out of it.

I think a lot of it is peer pressure, and how old you are, older people grew up in a time when it was acceptable, or they actually felt they had a reason, being told that 'the darkies are stealing our jobs'.

I remember Stewart Lee talking about a political campaign by the Conservatives when he was young, and the leaflets were 'If you want a ****** for a neighbour, vote for Labour'. That was just fine about 30 years ago, no-one would see any problem with that. Even now the Daily Mail would print surveys that proved black people lowered house prices if they could get away with it.

My parents aren't really racist, but they do believe every word they read about immigrants, and I think 'Immigrants are the new black', no I'm not talking fashion. Honestly, they can't see any problem with the 'facts' they read, that British people will be a minority in the UK in 2012, or that 98% of the world's foreigners now live in hotels in Dover. I wouldn't mind so much if I'd seen for myself any evidence that we're filling up, all I've seen is that our old Big Issue seller is now a wailing Romanian woman who seems to have totally failed the Big Issue training course. I know homelessness is horrible and no fun at all, but generally, Big Issue sellers try to be positive, and have a smile, and you kinda get to take away a part of that when you buy a copy. (honestly I'm not trying to sound as smug and condescending as that reads). I don't like to be 'guilted' into buying it, and end up avoiding that corner.

i dont think the answer to that question is as cut/dry as yes/no, there is more to it ... so your poll kinda sucks
