Just something that came to mind. It probally stems from something I was talking about with a mate earlier though. We were discussing how alot of people join in with racist jokes so they're not left out, even though they're not racist themselves. The massive divide in responses hasn't given me much of a clear answer though.
Oh see to me that's a completely different scenario. I think 9/10 racist jokes are pointing fun at the racists not the race and its more about mocking their ignorance than anything else. When you laugh its not because what they are suggesting is a good idea its because of how fucking far-fetched it sounds. Best example I can think of it Tim Minchins Taboo...

Love this so much, it makes you realize how ridiculous peoples prejudices are.

Okay, this does not in any way make them a bad person. First, I want to say I'm wholly impressed in how the Escapist is handling this and not flaming said person for having a prejudice. Having said that, it is a bit ignorant for a person to judge someone by their skin color, but sometimes its actually true. I have plenty of black friends, but still I personally think that sometimes they can be obnoxious in a way that white people aren't. What I mean by that is that yes, races are different, and frequently they come with different cultures, so while is bad to generalize someone by their skin color, its okay to dislike someone for acting as you'd perhaps expect from their race.
The overarching point is that its wrong to make judgments about someone without judging them for their person, but races and cultures are different, and people shouldn't ignore that aspect either.

Uhm.. I don't like Asian men, not because of their skin colour, but because three tried grabbing me in town once, one tried mugging me and three tried to pick a fight with me earlier. People stupidly call me racist because of that.
As long as he doesn't act on it, he's not a bad person.
If you were mugged by three men of your own race would you dislike every male in your race?

Yes, as I stated earlier. I don't like the majority men much anyway, and I have a boyfriend.
Going have to report you for calling me a retard though. That was bang out of order and childishly rude, I doubt you'll last long here.

Again, I agree completely. We were more focusing on quite strong racism though, oppose to simply jesting. I mean, there are alot of cases where you can obviously tell that the person telling the joke is racist, especially when it's at someone's expense, but people still might join in.

Oh, for crying out loud... look at what I said to that troll in a previous post. There's a difference between prejudice and racism. But when it's a different skin colour it always seems to be racism.
theres not really that much of a difference, all racism is is a specific kind of prejudism towards people of different races! so yes, when its because of a different skin colour it IS racism

Right I get you... either the person laughing is subconsciously racist and doesn't quite realize it or they have serious self esteem issues. People go through things like bulimia, self harm, obesity caused by comfort eating, extreme plastic surgery in bids to boost their self esteem. What's a laugh at a racist joke in comparison to those extremes?

I know it seems I'm going off topic but trying to think of the most straight forward examples. :p

Oh, the fucking irony.
Who is calling who a retard? You're the one picking on the disabled with that politically incorrect slur. And how do you know I'm not disabled? Last time I checked, not liking the majority of men is not sexist.
Sort your life out, sweetheart.

No, it makes you human.

Admitting your racism displays your intelligence on the matter.
I've gotta agree to your first sentence, but not the latter.

Everyone has prejudices. I, for example, feel a slight twinge of revulsion (I guess you could call it that) when I see a black person, especially if they look like a rapper or something. I can't help it.
Wow that's some of the most evil hatred. That hurts "revulsion" wow that's just shocking that I'm revolting to you for being alive. No matter what I will always be revolting to you no matter how good a person I am.
Did you read the part where I'm aware of it and try not to let it affect my behavior? It's not as if I'm proud of having those feelings.

[Edit] Also. I didn't say "hate". It's more like impulsive discomfort.

It's something you'll have to outdo with the firmer parts of your character, certainly, but there are murderers that are good people overall, so I don't think moving to the other side of the street to avoid dark people automatically consigns you to the Pit for wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Well, no, it doesn't automatically make you a bad person. It doesn't mean you are stupid either (actually writing that would be stupid). Ignorant? Well probably yes.

Racism is such a broad term though. I mean what is a racist? A Neo Nazi or a crazy hick that actually wants to kill people of another skin color?
Or a white man that missed a promotion to a black colleague and might have uttered a very negative racial slur while he was by himself?
Or a white woman who wonders to herself just why there are so many immigrants in her country in a rather negative way?

It depends how you look at it, either every single person on earth are racist, or only a very small percentage.

I think you both going to get in trouble for those posts.
Maybe you two should talk this out before the mods have to deal with this?

Edit: If your offended badly by someone, report them. Going down to that said persons level will only get you in trouble to. Report, move on. Play life, Live games.

Everyone is racist in one way or another.

Admit it, you have thought or said something racist more than once, everyone has.
