I was just thinking, do you enjoy a game more if it has super hard-core violence?
I wish I could be mature enough to say no, but an evil little part of me giggles whenever I make a raider's head explode in Fallout 3, or when I chain-saw a locust in half in Gears Of War.
I was just wondering how the other members of The Escapist felt about this topic.

(By the way, I'm not a psycho-path. While I may enjoy violent games, I never act aggressive or attack people in real life. Why would I need to when I can do it with no consequences in a video game?)

I love good, gory bloody games, and I hate games where the blood disappears, everytime is vanishes, it make me wonder where is the janitor

If i shoot someone in the face I expect some blood/brain matter. It's not mandatory but helps with the immersion. On the other hand when it's overdone like in F3 (I shoot someone in the face and their legs fall off ?!) it's just as bad as having them just fall down.

PS.
Saying that you don't enjoy gore makes you mature? Interesting.

I love gory games, like God of War when you slice the intestines out of a centaur. If in the right context, it's awesome and I love it

If the gore is ridiculous and over the top, it'll piss me off and I'll hate the game, like in Gears of War. If it so much as rains you turn into a thousand cubes of bloody meat. I don't need gore to enjoy a game, but if a game claims to be realistic or gritty, I'll want a decent amount...

Depends on the game, playing Call Of Duty I wouldn't expect much in the way of gore, although WaW did have limbs flying off. But when playing Alien Versus Predator, in light of the original alien and predator movies, all 18s bar the new Predators a 15, were all fairly gory and violent. So I feel it's fitting for this particular game.

It can help to give the combat a more visceral feel, so I prefer if action games have some at least some kind of gore.

Prototype got a little over the top in my opinion. I probably would have preferred it if there hadn't been so much, but it wasn't too bad.

it may not be realistic but it is totally awsome!

I love blood in games, like in Prototype, Ninja Gaiden and FPS games.

However, I'm capable of enjoying games without blood. League of Legions, Guild Wars. All good.

Blood and gore aren't needed, but I'd be lying if I said I got the bloody mess perk for the extra 5% damage.

It's just a graphical touch to me. The sight of blood doesn't bother me in real life, why would it in a game? So no, it doesn't affect my enjoyment of a game, beyond the occasional "Holy fuck this is awesome" when chainsawing an opponent in gears.

it can be an... interesting change, but too much just drops the the game down to a childish level

I like cartoony violence, like Team Fortress 2 or Borderlands. Especially the latter, seeing as there's not much more satisfying than punching a guy and making him explode.
But proper, full on gore annoys me after a while, like God of War or Gears of War. Sure, have some body parts fall off every now and again, but I don't really want to see some realistic intestines flying at the screen.
