I usually don't care, but I giggle like a little school girl at the blood and gore in God of War 3.

Y'know, I don't really notice it anymore.

Even the gore in Alien vs Predator (the crappy new one that is, not the awesome old one) just passed under my radar.

That's desensitisation for you I suppose.

I couldn't see an answer that applies to me- I don't mind gore if it's done tongue in cheek- if it's played for laughs it can have as much blood as it wants and I'd still enjoy it.

If it's trying to be serious though, any more blood that you'd expect and it just becomes a farce.

Gore doesnt make much of a difference to me. Its a bonus and sometimes it helps boost up the badass/fear factor. Some games just cant manage it though, and tend to under or over do it.

You want to be disoriented? Play gears of war normally, then turn on the gore/language filter. I was surprised myself how the lack of gore kind of killed the good experiences of frag tags and chainsaws. But I guess its cause gore and such just rubs off and stays with you after awhile, especially when you saw it just minutes ago.

I enjoy gore and blood on a carnal level. I'm a man, conflict is important to me. On an individual rather than a general level, I'd say I spend more time thinking about violence than I do thinking about food, work and sex combined.

Violence, even extreme violence, is a part of yourself that you ought to A) Have access to, B) Respect as a powerful primary impulse not always under your control and C) Include in your relations with other human beings; protect your group, assess the strengths of others, and be vengeful on your own behalf.

These being my feelings about violence and violence being such a perculiarly central theme of my life, I'd make the observation that I own perhaps 80% violent games with all the trimmings, 20% intellectually stimulating or emotionally feel-good games like Black+White, and that what I'm playing depends on which part of me I'm playing to occupy.

If i shoot someone in the face I expect some blood/brain matter. It's not mandatory but helps with the immersion.
Pretty much This.

I like gore, it rienforces the visceral horror of an event- splatter, pools of blood, eviscerations, all bring home the inherent danger, the fear, that this could happen to you.

Like memento mori, only more immediate- not "as I am, so shall you become", so much as "you gonna get murdered!"

Having said that, God of War III is too much for me. A fictitious modern- badass- style demigod grinding up my favourite mythological monsters in a brutal and abhorrent, and utterly evil, fashion attempts to demean the iconic and emphasize the 'coolness' or toughness of the 'protagonist'(What I mean to say is, is that I'd rather watch monsters slaughter people horrificly, and not the other way round. I KNOW how horrible people can be- that's called real life.).

I can say that I pretty much enjoy gore and violence, i've torn apart plenty of corpses during tage in my day and I have to say it's kind of... Oh wait. We're talking about VIDEO games! Oh! oh wow... Well, I feel sheepish.

Seriously, though, I'm okay with blood in my games so long as they don't go overboard like they did in Dragon age. I had to take down the excesive blood because I was sick and tired of having my character covered in it half the time. Also, I was afraid of him getting STD's but that's a different story.

Gore can be fun if it's done right. Age of Chivalry hit the spot for me. If you don't know what it is it's basicly an fps with swords and bows and whatnot. And when I first decapitated someone and his blood sprayed out the air I went "Holy shit, did you see what I just did?! Tell me you saw that! I'm a fucking GOD!"

For me it really depends on the game in question. I don't seek out games with blood or gore but I do feel that there are games where it's almost necessary to fit the style and tone. If such a game does not have blood or gore then yes, that may actually detract from my enjoyment of it.

If its used properly or to add to realism. Like in Star Wars when some one gets sliced in half it annoys me that there wasn't any blood, but I've convinced myself the heat of the lightsaber some how stops the blood flooding out, now I can enjoy it. So if theirs a reason for the lack of blood fair enough
