I have noticed that there is a lot of hate for both fright night and conan remakes from fans of the original movies. I don't get why so many people get their panties in a twist about this. What is wrong with giving it a chance? It is not like the remake is going to erase the original from existance.

what are your guys' thoughts on this?

It pisses me off when they do it badly, but I try to keep an open mind until I've actually seen it. Even then, it can still be a good film to watch, even if it doesn't live up to the original.

I don't know, hasn't really happened yet. I know that if it did, I'd wait until the movie was out and I'd actually seen it to start raising hell. You can't make accurate judgments based on trailers and promos.
Besides, like the OP said, it's not as though the remake erases the original from existence.

Remakes in themselves don't piss me off. What pisses me off, are all those foreign masterpieces getting an american remake just because they're popular. Does the entertainment industry honestly think the average consumer is so fatheaded that it can't watch a film in a different language?

I mean, not only is it disrespectful, it paints the american entertainment industry in an even worse light than it already has!

What the good man from Leeds says... though to be fair, most remakes of films I've enjoyed have turned out rubbish (300, Clash of the Titans, Planet of the Apes, Pearl Harbour being examples).

However, I'm open to them, and one particular remake (Oceans Eleven) I thoroughly enjoyed over the original (I just hope there were more of them).

Basically, some are crap and some are not. That's the long and the short of it.

You missed the option of "other"

I personally do not care directly but... Once a whole bunch of idiots act like "it was so awecome man..." I then get pissed off.

SO yeah it does piss me off. Just indirectly.

Honestly it depends for me, if the movie was just made like 5 years ago, then it's not needed. Wait at least a decade before trying to reintroduce the same idea again in a new format... That being said I'm not happy that they're remaking Girl With the Dragon Tattoo for the U.S. and I really don't like that they picked Maura Rooney for the role of Lisbeth... she's just scary and Lisbeth isn't supposed to be THAT scary.

I'm the same as some others who aren't zombified fans of the original movies. As in I am open to a remake if it turns out good, even if I haven't seen the original. That's one thing I take into account that "Original Fans" don't. They don't give the film a chance by itself, they always compare to the original. It becomes more enjoyable (something films, in general, are meant for) if you pretend the original didn't exist and look at a film as the "original" and stop comparing. Same thing goes for adaptions, pretend the film is an original piece not based on previously existing material, you might enjoy it for once.

Although sometimes the remake on its own is still S*** and then I just say F*** ALL, and go back to severing peoples limbs in any number of M-Rated games.

The Eragon film still fills my rage meter faster than any number of internet trolls combined.

You are WRONG Good sir or Madam! THEY ARE ALL BAD!

NO one takes away Sean Connery and makes it seem like a good idea!
*Bites offending hand off at the wrist*

You're citing a narrow view. Those are only the bad examples. Go forth and expand your horizons...minus one hand.

Just like this guy said, it pisses me off when they do it badly. Problem is, 99% of the time they do it badly. It can make a good movie great when it's remade well, but that rarely happens.

Usually Hollywood tries to remake it "for a modern American audience" which appears to mean: more explosions, strip out any long words or obscure references, add sarcasm and/or slapstick, and shoehorn in a romance subplot whether it fits or not. And cast whoever's currently fashionable regardless of whether their style fits that kind of film or not.

So? Let them wallow in their ignorance.
"Better to keep quiet and be thought a fool then to open you mouth and prove it."
Getting all pissy about it only makes you look like an ass, doesn't change their opinion any.

I'm just young enough that I don't really have a film that I love that's old enough be remade, so I don't know how I would feel. Probably insulted, but at the moment I'm thinking that it could be better than the original if it's handled properly.

Actually, no. At least, not until I've seen it and judged it to be bad/ruin what I enjoyed about the original.

If it's a good remake, then I'm fine with it.
