That's like saying 'Do McDonalds need to stop making Big Macs?'

ridiculous poll and one that'll probably get locked.

Why would they?

So they can release worse games?

Its great if they take up new IPs, but destroying the old ones is plain stupid.

Hell no!

The Mario, Metroid, and especially Zelda games are consistently good. Why would Nintendo ever decide to stop making them, and why on earth would that be a good idea?

Each of those series are almost always very good games, and always good sellers. If you think they should stop making them, then you haven't played any of them recently. Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, and LoZ: Twilight Princess, were all great games.

I doubt they have enough creativity to make anything like these games, so if they want to keep making money (which they do) they will continue to pump Mario, Zelda and Metriod.

Why?

It doesn't matter how many Mario games Nintendo has made. I still have fun with them. And so long as I'm having fun with a game, what's the problem? Isn't that the ultimate objective of all video games? To entertain the player?

I'm curious OP, explain why they should stop making these games. I see no reason for them not to.

Exactly. I'm all for Nintendo making new IPs like Pikmin, but there's no reason to destroy their old ones in the process. I would be genuinely sad if I heard that there would never be another Mario game.

Name one game from Zelda (OTHER THAN ZELDA II) or Metroid that wasn't good in some way.

Better to keep the old-yet-good series rolling instead of making a bunch of piss-poor sellouts like all those 3rd party developers who keep forcing the Wii and DS to eat their sh*t sandwiches.

Does Mario, Zelda, and Metroid stop making money? I do not believe so. Besides, as overused as the franchises are, they still always rank among the best games on that console. And they're always fun, which is really all you can ask for.

No. They do need to make a new IP, but notice, they're not really milking their franchises. only immature idiots who hate everything popular say otherwise, really. Milking is making crap just to get money. With Nintendo, most new releases in these old franchises are inspired, well-designed, and truly good games. That's not milking a franchise, it's keeping it alive and well.

I don't think they should stop entirely, but maybe let up a bit on them. At this point, it seems like those are the IPs they actually just base their entire operation off of. It'd be nice to see some fresh ideas from Nintendo every now and then.

This.
I am sick of them cycling through the same three IPs all the time, but if they make new IPs I see no reason to dump old franchises.

I'm not a zelda/mario/metroid hater but the games just aren't fresh anymore. I would love to enjoy the games but they feel to samey. Same thing goes for halo which went as far as to make the same end level for halo 1 and 3. If they were to do more games like paper mario then I see no reason for them to stop making them, but remaking super mario bros. 3 is not a good way to treat your IP. I'm just saying these franchises are past their due dates.(Also if you ever worked for McDonalds you wouldn't want to eat there)

I agree with this too. I bought a Wii because of Twilight Princess (and because I thought the Wii might be okay). The only time I have a problem with continuing an IP, such as these, is when there are games constantly coming out (I'm looking at you Mario).

Exactly, why not do something new with the franchises, but this rids Metroid from the topic.

Mario - Maybe go from a new vantage point, say like the old crash games? Might be fun.
Zelda - The Wii is perfect for Zelda, get the controls right and enable THE most fun game ever (ok maybe make new puzzles or take away the huge amount of items Link gets)
Pokemon - Mature it up, perhaps say Fable/Folklore but you throw out a pokemon and have active FF Dissida/Kingdom Hearts style battles.
DK - Make a new DK game like Mario 64 or Banjo Kazooie
Kirby - A proper 3D Kirby wouldn't hurt, just make it fun
Fire Emblem - Learn from Valkyria Chronicles but stay true to your roots
Star Fox - Make Lylat Wars Wii, everyone will buy it!

Just some suggestions

They should stop making Zelda, Mario, and Metroid as much as Sonic Team should keep on making Sonic games.

I don't care, but still agree. Only thing they'll achieve by this is pissing off their oldest fans.
